It just gets funnier and scarier by the day. I haven't really seen anything completely damning in these leaked cables but the steps taken by the government to suppress them are starting to border on the hilarious and tyrannical at the same time.

Columbia University’s Office of Career Service is said to have passed around an email warning students that if they read WikiLeaks or make comments related to the releases it would render them ineligible for any government jobs in the future, based on a warning sent by a former student working at the State Department.

State Department spokeswoman Nicole Thompson insisted the warning wasn’t an official Department directive but added that making public comments or posting links to WikiLeaks content wasn’t “a good move for any US citizen.”

This is getting ridiculous. I am starting to think this is a set up. Not that wiki leaks is disinfo or anything of the sort. I just am figuring the purpose for wiki-leaks is not to notify is of corruption but to threaten countries to get them to set up all these laws and bills towards privacy. Old world order made wiki leaks so they could refortify all the countries they are associated with. Wiki leaks is a problem for the government created by the government. That's why they are stalling on releasing everything cause that's not their agenda its to fuel our fears for as long as possible until everyone breaks under the pressure and justify the governments actions for peac and quiet. Sound insane or am I on to something?

Since when does a democracy use fear and intimidation to control it's people?

I wish I could point a finger at the US and say things are better here in Canada, but they aren't.

Here we have prof's calling for assasinations while the chief of police in Toronto is caught lying about what people are seeing on videos from the G# summits.

I am sure blacklisting goes on, but who knows in this case.

Being at school can be dangerous to your life, and the rest of your days.

Stuff like blacklists do exist, and we know watchlists exist as fact.

It's starting to happen, just like I said in a post a few days ago. If you even READ these whistle blower documents then you will be considered a terrorist and a threat.

The government is now telling us what we are allowed to read.

Let the information age book burning commence!!!

The United States is NOT nor never has been a Democracy. It is a Republic.

The people do not pick the President. The Electoral College does. The people do not rule the country thru their Representatives in Congress, the elite rule the country.

Why American's think their country is a Democracy is beyond me. Shows just how uneducated the populace truly is.

Democracy is a socialist system, not about freedom, its mob rule. It is just socialism for pretending we are free.

The days of your republic which may of had freedoms are gone, where each person had rights. That stuff is gone forever.

Democracy is just socialism. You have to accept this. Also they fix the voting, how socialist can you get lol. It only matters who counts the votes, not who you vote for, lol.

I've made this point before and I know some find it offensive, but it scares me when a large percentage of those known as the 'awake' have seemingly turned into sheeple in ONE day. I hope Wikileaks is on the up & up but so far it smells like brilliant psy-ops.

Regardless, tptb are for sure using the leaks as part of the systematical silencing of our voice. We are under attack and I worry that there is not enough 'truth' left in the world to stop anything.

I highly recommend this thread by burntheships for some well put together information on Wikileaks.

The Wikileaks paranoia and conjured nationalism is starting to become scary. I haven't checked the legitimacy of this article, but I wouldn't doubt it. Everyone knows the level of schmucks we have in the United States government, especially the State Dept.

Seriously, this is starting to become culture-war level paranoia, and this could very well lead to a sort of violent uprising starting with massive rifts in the political system. The behind-the-curtain splinter factions of the US are probably trying to reap as much power from this phenomena as possible. Investing heavily in propaganda for control in the long-run. It's as dividing, if not more so, as was the Iraq war and Patriot Act "with us or against us" phenomena, and it is scary. I really think this might be the big one, in terms of greasing the police state wheels.

Maybe this was the point after all. I'm fairly certain the govt. is always 10-steps ahead of the people when it comes to getting wind of revolt, of any kind. Considering the economic downturn for the past 5 years, they've probably used Wikileaks as the "standard" in cataloguing "problem" people. Not necessarily for 'elimination' purposes, but for trying to literally filter people out of the more structural cogs of the United States government.

I've always felt I had the bare intuition required to picture what the US (or the rest of the world for that matter) would be like in 10-15 years from the present, but now I literally have no idea. Government officials just seem to get more and more bat# as the days go on, and the people continue to splinter off into extremes of their former parties.

How are they going to try to enforce this?

Will there be a spot on one's job application if they have ever read wikileak's leaks? Only an idiot will answer yes in they know it won't get them hired.

The lawmakers are going overboard over this. It is almost comical until the Orwellian reality sets in.

What people fail to remember is that most of these "leaks" are classified and are not meant for public consumption. Just because someone is careless and leaves their keys in their car does not give someone else the right to steal it and their friends the right to pass it around amongst themselves.

I personally love hearing information that I am not normally privy to but not under the circumstances surrounding this. I can see why the government would not want to hire someone who dug into this information; the individual would be prone to digging in to more when they have easier access to it and are working for them.

Maybe this is why...

Obama Inauguration speech

If you want I can dig up references by other presidents as well.

If the president is too uneducated to know that the US is not a democracy, how can you expect the people to know better?

You give big brother way too much credit. I've worked for the government and imho the left hand doesn't seem to know what the right is doing.

If Al-Jazeera can publish wikileaks docs and the Arab can read it, why can't an American?

The damage has already been done and I think the higher ups with blood on their hands are scared that their sheep will turn against them if they know the truth.

No they don't.

Believe what you want to believe. The government is far more incompetent that many can imagine.
