Indeed, Wikileaks has seen that movie before: In 2008, a Swiss bank — upset by a leaked document that it said contained secret client data — obtained an American court order locking WikiLeaks' domain name. The order was reversed after two weeks, but even during that time it was strikingly ineffective, due to what several experts called the "Whack-a-Mole" problem.
"They were taken off the air at WikiLeaks.org but they remained available on mirror sites or if you knew the (numerical) IP address,' said Steven Aftergood of the Federation of American Scientists. "Simply doing what was done to the counterfeit companies is not going to accomplish anything with respect to WikiLeaks."
