Another day, another OMG CAN THEY DO THIS? thread....

Years ago there was a webpage someone had that when you visited it, it would list your entire C: contents... Oh man you guys would have disconnected from the internet and burnt your computers in a bonfire at the evil methods you would not have understood.

Like the IP revealing image here, it is one way. NO one else sees YOUR ip.

Every time you visit any website on the internet, you talk to it via your IP address, and that is all that is displayed.

If you're still concerned then read Danasoft Info

Now, as for would the owners of the site give the government your login details?

I can only assume that like any other forum on the internet, if someone makes a threat or a claim (I'm going to kill myself tonight, I'm going to stab my neighbour tonight, I'm going to blow up that bridge tonight, I have killed my family, what should I do?) and an authority requests this information, there would have to be some consideration given to it or else should anything actually happen, the owners may be legally liable. I don't know.

But if super secret man in black emails SO and says "Pssst, hey you... Give me that Animatrix guys login details, or we'll shut you guys down see, that's right bud, don't mess with me, I'm the govmint!!" I'd think they'd respond, politely, with a go fornicate with yourself you silly little person.

Then again, the woo woo crew will never be satisfied, which often has me scratching my head that people so paranoid about everything in life, would spend time on a Conspiracy forum that they believe would dish out the goods on them in an instant...

I can tell you that per our Terms And Conditions we will only give up the very little info we have (registration IP and registration Email address). With a legit subpeonna from a U.S. Court of law. There is NOTHING else we would ever consider.

The only way to get that to happen to you is if you blatantly violate one of the OBVIOUS "threat laws" of the U.S. Like threatening the POTUS online or some other such folly.

We can't risk cutting everyone else off of ATS (having the site taken down) because of the lack of discretion of one member.

That being said, "they" don't need the basically worthless info we have, "they" can get whatever "they" need from many sources. Just don't be ignorant online and you're golden.

Springer...

Good thing for them I guess then that the Patriot Act makes it so they can get you as many subpoenas as you want as quick as you need them.

And why can't I be ignorant? It's my right!

Not anymore.

And DEF not with Internet 2.0

You will soon log in ONCE and use that ONE login throughout the internet, a login that is easily tracked directly to you.

All to combat child pornography.

IDK about you, but I'd rather they look at pictures!

Edit to add: That was a joke, and it's only the reason they are using to control the internet. Main intent is to control speech, in real life and virtual.

I know you were only making a joke.. but just because it needs to be said. I'm against net control, but those pictures they are looking at have to be made. As long as their is a demand there will be people exploiting children to make this product, so essentially the pictures are still getting kids abused.

I too have wondered this. How do you really know that civilians own and maintain this site? How do you know that every post topic and person here isn't being monitored? or how do you know if that person that replied to your post is in fact a government agent?

Ill try it again, i somehow clicked post on the last thread, with nothing but the title

Basically, I wanted to ask the owners of ATS if theyve ever received a request by anyone, particularly government officials, for user information and or IP addresses of a member of this site?

If so, what was the response to this request?
If you havent yet but do receive a request for user info in the future, what would your response be?

Dont get me wrong, im not making any accusations what so ever but considering the content of some posts can stir up a lot of Anti-Govt sentiment, i think its a fair question to ask.

Sorry if this is in the wrong section, I'm fairly new here and still trying to find my way around.

Animatrix,

I don't think they have to go through ATS to keep tabs on you me or any one. They know all who are on the web through your computer. If you think your computer is safe better think again. The tech of surveillance is far beyond what they have ever let out or ever will. Domination is the name of the game. All must be team players or suffer the consequences.

A lot of members are dealing with a lot of negative and stressful stuff, I would imagine every once in a while someone loses it and throws a big crazy hissy-fit and has to be reined in.

Close friend of mine is like this, says he's being stalked by some unknown gang or secret society, or societies. And every once in a while he just completely loses it and starts throwing punches and hurling blunt objects around, and me and Ted have to wrestle him down to the ground and restrain him till he stops moving. We just go "think about your family, Bob. Think about your wife and your children Bob. Think about the people you love, Bob. Put the baseball bat down, Bob...." over and over again until he comes back.

He's a great guy though, everybody loves good old Bob, when he's not in one of his rages that is. Yep, somebody sure got to good old Bob and messed him up good, real good! He doesn't even like to leave his house much any more, poor guy...

Well it's happened on other sites:

www.cbsnews.com...

This is not, however, the first time that the Feds have focused on Indymedia -- a Web site whose authors sometimes blur the line between journalism, advocacy, and on-the-streets activism. In 2004, the Justice Department sent a grand jury subpoena asking for information about who posted lists of Republican delegates while urging they be given an unwelcome reception at the party's convention in New York City that year.

The T&C of this site say: "i) You will not use your membership in the Websites for any type of recruitment to any causes whatsoever." but if people post in violation of that (which has happened) and it falls under a threat category like Springer mentioned (which I guess also applies to that "unwelcome reception" whatever that means), it could happen here, but as that link says, such subpoenas are sometimes accompanied by a gag order so they wouldn't be allowed to tell us about it if it happened with one of those gag orders.

Im not an owner but I am sure if Aliens or E.T. or Black OPs workers

I don't know if you'd call Fark a conspiracy website but it's definitely happened there.
