I thought that the whole ban of certain beverages was because alcohol is a depressant and caffeine is a stimulant... The mix is dangerous. I don't think anyone sees caffeine as dangerous in itself.

Yes this is the reason, and anyone with a lick of common sense should be totally for this. Mixing stimulants with depressants is retarded. Most people are obviously too foolish to do what's best for them. The fact that people can't see what dangerous combinations do like this to individuals, their families, and their communities shows a horrid near sightedness.

Snorting glue is totally retarded.

Yet people do it.

Perhaps we should ban glue.

Given that the FDA has found caffeine to be an unsafe food additive, you can look for its removal from Mt. Dew and Coke soon.

You're entirely out of your mind if you think that's going to fly.

One way or another, the cola industries will continue to supply caffeine to their users.

Snorting coc aine is completely retarded but people enjoy doing it, perhaps we should unban it?

Why?

Because the soda producers have a lot of political influence?

hmmm....

Doesn't that relate to what I said in the OP?

I'm going to go home tonight and get smashed on Jack and Cokes in honor of this FDA ruling.

I'll be sure to post when I'm bombed out of my mind.

Mnemeth! Must we get into the idiocies of black and white absolutes in this thread as well ?!

Snorting glue isn't advertised and marketed into some fad by big business.

They're not even close to the same thing.

People know that snorting glue is retarded, but many morons still think that consuming alcoholic energy drinks is cool and relatively safe.

Since people who want to snort it do so anyways right now, I don't see what good the ban is doing.

All the ban does is drive up costs for users, drive up profits for the producers, and waste a hundred billion a year trying to stop people from doing something they obviously want to do.

As long as they aren't hurting anyone but themselves, I don't have a problem with people snorting coc aine.

Thank god you are here to correct them.

Using a government issued gun.

I hope they don't ban caffeine completely, atlthough I think it is reasonable to ban cafeine and alcohol mixed drinks. I made the mistake once of being intoxicated and then chugging a monster. Not good I completely flipped and felt like I was gona die.

Tell me socialists and other assorted totalitarians, what should my penalty be for offering consumers a product that combines caffeine and alcohol?

1 year in prison?

2 years?

How about they just shoot me in the head right there in the court room.

According to the Ledain commission report published in Canada by the government in the seventies, the sniffing glue thing was promoted through a deliberate negative advertising campaign masquerading as news in order to use it like the rest of the war on drugs to further the agenda of the coming police state.

much like the skulls in the Icecube philosophy of deathwish advertising....

I can see the FDA running a commando raid on a Buffalo Wild Wings for the crime of offering alcohol and salty foods in the same setting.

Since salty foods make people thirsty, people drink more.

This of course promotes alcoholism, therefore salty foods and beer combined must be banned.

It only makes sense.

People are too stupid to make their own choices, therefore our wise autocrats must decide for us.

At the risk of appearing "prideful" or even "tolerant" of my roots I know plenty of people who think sniffing glue is cool and safe.

You cant legislate against stupidity. People are going to be stupid dumbasses whether it's against the law to be or not. Whether some "evil big business" is selling the product or not.

Damn big glue. Elmers is killing our kids with their poison.

It's like being stupid is seen as cool and relatively harmless by so many posters and voters. Find something you hate, "big business", and drag out all the irrational garbage you can to make them hurt or at least to feel like you're making them hurt. It's okay to be a complete imbecile and legislate against high winds, aging, unicorns and all flavors of imaginary and unpreventable threats wasting millions of dollars and man hours in the process as long as you feel like you're sticking it to something you think you hate for some reason you think you may have.

What's the real target for those who approve? The mixing of caffeine and alcohol? The stupid behavior of stupid people? The safety of said idiots? The fact that somebody somewhere is profiting from a product? Alcohol consumption as a whole? Closet prohibitionists maybe?

Depending on how one rationalizes such an absurd measure will help define your place on the idiocy scale. Maybe you're actually sort of smart. Maybe you're real target is alcohol consumption as a whole and you'll take any win you can get. Maybe you're actually a real idiot and think that by keeping peanut butter and jelly out of the same jar nobody will ever put them together outside of their respective jars. Maybe you're just carrying some ridiculous ideal based vendetta against anyone and anything that turns a profit. Maybe you just love your government so much it just cant ever make a mistake.

I want the real reason for support. At least then I know you've tried to think.

It makes me LOL when people are against "big business" but support insanely stupid regulations such as this, when the regulations themselves are entirely driven by industry desires.

...that a naturally occuring chemical called caffeine...

Anything done in nature and by nature is natural, humans are animals, as are birds and beavers, all are found in nature, and all are natural. If bird nests and beaver dams are natural, anything we do is natural. Hell, uranium is natural, but if I went around selling it, it probably wouldn't end well...

You don't have to get into this 'natural' junk to have a message here, just my two cents.

No, the title is 100% accurate.

The article even uses the word "BAN" specifically as it relates to caffeinated products.

Caffeine is a unsafe food additive - didn't you know?

Caffeine has not been banned. The title in NOT accurate.
The combination of caffeine/alcohol in a drink has been banned because of the extreme drinks, ONLY until the FDA can determine whether or not it's safe.
If caffeine had been banned, every mountain dew bottle and all coffee would have been pulled from the shelves. Did that happen? NO you say ??? then the title is NOT accurate.
