DENAIR, Calif. -- A Stanislaus County school is forcing a student to take an American flag off of his bike. Thirteen-year-old Cody Alicea put the flag there as a show of support for the veterans in his family. But officials at Denair Middle School told him he couldn't fly it. He said he was told some students had complained.

Source

As you can tell some students complained about a kid carrying his countries flag. Which I find ironic how they quote the first Amendment.

Now I'm a multiracial American citizen. I do find patriotism to be a menace to society. Yet this boy should be able to fly his flags.

So if a few students complain the school can force you to do this? When did this policy start? The kids should complain about having too much homework next, the teachers would be screwed!

Public schools in my area are terrible. Majority of the students will never respect another's opinion if they swore on it. What's sad is that the teachers refuse to control the students.

We just have to remember; The only flag considered offensive in America is the American flag. All other flags welcome!

I'm not a flag guy so I never get into these chats about flags. I do know the Confederate flag has been controversial. It's sad seeing the countries flag as controversial.

This is what happens when we allow Liberal activist judges run amok. If those other kids are complaining about another student having the American flag on his bicycle the principle shouldn’t tell that kid to remove it but rather should smack them other kids upside the head. (Little extreme but you get my point).

Students should be allowed to wear a shirt draped in their nation’s colors to school. Then trying to claim they are avoiding tensions?

"Our Hispanic, you know, kids will, you know, bring their Mexican flags and they'll display it, and then of course the kids would do the American flag situation, and it does cause kind of a racial tension which we don't really want," Parraz said. "We want them to appreciate the cultures."

Well those Mexican kids have a responsibility as well, if they want to wave the Mexican flag and Americans want to wave the flag OF THIS COUNTRY then there should be no tension. You are in America so you can appreciate your cultural flag which is Mexico but you have to also be proud to waive the American flag because kids. YOU’RE IN AMERICA!

Our taxes pay for those desks. The children earned their desks in classrooms via the huge amount of taxes that drain their parents wallets and savings accounts dry.

what if its a conspiracy to get red blooded americans angry so they want to wave the flag sort of like a false flag against patriotism, seems like the gov't these days is begging for some rebellion

It's all a bunch of crap used to stir up hatred in our country. My family has always flown our homelands flag outside our house along with the American flag above it. They are doing a great job at abandoning God and destroying Patriotism in the United States. I guess soon we will just be another socialist third world nation like the rest.

I agree with you.. here is a quote for ya..

"Heroism on command, senseless violence, and all the loathsome nonsense that goes by the name of patriotism -how passionately I hate them!" Albert Einstein

But he said he was doing it to show support for people in his family who were in the military.. I am not sure that goes under the word patriotism..

Its like the people who say They support the troops not the war kinda thing..

I am curious though, was the flag made in china?

I really don't see how a teacher can say squat regarding a child's personal property that would never even enter that school. My advice to the child, park your bike across the street, chain in in place, then fly a HUGE HONKIN Old Glory with a don't tread on me beneath it!

Seriously, this child should walk around the school with his middle finger constantly raised.

And was ANYone surprised it happened in Cali? The land of Nancy strikes again.

So wait let me see if I understand the full picture of what is going on [and I mean no ill will as I try to come to the conclusion]

"Our Hispanic, you know, kids will, you know, bring their Mexican flags and they'll display it, and then of course the kids would do the American flag situation, and it does cause kind of a racial tension which we don't really want," Parraz said. "We want them to appreciate the cultures."

So if those kids complained about the Mexican flag - due to the nature of what they said they would be forced to take them down. Really to me I don't care a flag's a flag, but if the kids can come by and have their own flags waving in the wind proudly why can't another student do so as well? It -- I don't know how to put it, but it just doesn't seem fair or right. To have some students have their flags out and when another student tries it as well with their own students complain.

I see this was posted for yesterday so I'm not to sure if I could apply it for today? It's a shame though if that kid was really going to utilize it primarily for today - a day in which the flag should be waved proudly. Furthermore I'd like to hear some of these complaints as it would be interesting as to know what the thought of as being so worth while to complain about to actually go and have someone ask the student to take it down.

A great sticker for your car available from veterans affairs au, depicts our flag (AUS) with the saying "If you dont like it, LEAVE".
Every car should have one.

The following is my opinion as a member participating in this discussion.

And there you go.

I have great sympathy for the school. I know exactly what the principal means. One kid does A then another will do B in response until it escalates. School is for learning. Whatever distracts from that should be excluded. You want to show your personal "support" for something, do it on your own time, off school property. There are plenty of jerks just looking for an opportunity and excuse to do something disruptive in response and will use the excuse "... you can't stop me from doing B because he can do A", and suddenly you're refereeing a dispute rather than educating.

No personal flags on school property. Period. I have no problem with that, at all.
