Gunman shoots 3 in Walmart in Reno

www.msnbc.msn.com

A gunman was holed up Friday at a Walmart after he shot three employees who have been hospitalized with non-life threatening injuries, police said.

About 100 people in the store were safely evacuated, police said.

The lone gunman entered the store about 8:30 a.m. and started shooting in the direction of an employee or employees, Reno Deputy Police Chief Mike Whan said.

"To our knowledge, he's the only one in the store," Whan told The Associated Press. "We don't know anything about the gunman yet or his motives."

Wow what is it with Wal-mart in the news lately?

The latest is that he is holed up inside the Wal-mart store somewhere. I wonder what his motive is for the shooting.

I hope they catch him soon. He probably will either commit suicide or be shot by the police/SWAT teams. That is how these things usually go.

If he wasn't in a Walmart, would we even be hearing about this on a national level?

hmmm...good question.

The media does tend to put it out there if it has something to do with gun violence.

I think in light of this weeks events, something is going down.

1. Post Office murder and robbery in Kentucky.
2. False alarm evacuation of Texas A&M
3. Suspicious packages in UK, and USA on UPS planes today.
4. Suspicious package at Post Office today.
5. Today's report that Shootings at several military installations linked.
6. Current passenger flight being escorted by fighter jets.
7. Shooting at the WalMart.

also loosely connected

8. Provacateur at the Rand Paul debate and criticism of the Tea Party.
9. Obama on PrimeTime cable television dressed down and far too common.
10. Reports that Pelosi may step down.
11. Rahm Emanuel already stepped down.
12. Shake up in Florida politics with Clinton (Bill) campaigning non-stop and reports that Meek is being asked to step down from the race.

Is this all just build up to next Tuesday?
Or is there a coordinated terror campaign?
Or is there a coordinated fear-mongering campaign?
Or is the country in that bad of a condition that this stuff is getting more and more common?

I believe that things haven't gotten worse, we just have access to more information than we had a few years ago. How many 24 hour news channels are there? Combine that with the internet and radio, we are innundated with information these days.

You are probably right, but I think there is something else. An ROTC student with a practice rifle should not instill panic and evacuation! The country is on edge, people are not using common sense. There was a day when someone would have looked into that situation at least a little bit before sounding the alarms.

There was a day when a tampered copier toner box would be a vandalism or employee theft issue, not a worldwide terror alert.

There was a day when people lost elections and they went back to their primary businesses and they tried again the next election, instead of suing and getting talk shows, and having their party leaders resign over the disgust with voters too "uneducated" to vote for their party?

The news may be part of the problem, but I think the problem goes much deeper.

LOL! You are probably right! There is already the reports that the voter machines have flaws that favor democrats! Is that a spin strategy to excuse less than favorable Republican results, or is that a spin tactic to warn elderly Republican voters away so they don't make mistakes and vote for the wrong people?

Why is everything these days spin? What ever happened to truth and facts?

Actually, the post office shooting was in Tennessee. They still have no suspects in that one, either and the so-called "eye witness" has never been mentioned again.

Yes, that was your thread...thank you!

That one is still the most troubling for me. That particular story seems the most menacing and leaves the most unanswered questions!

I would like to know what happened to the witness.

Maybe they have her in protection or something? Maybe that's why the news coverage went mum.

My friend works at this Wal-Mart. He's ok. They're all a bit shaken up right now. At first I thought it was the Northtowne Lane Wal-Mart, but then I remembered that they shut that one down a few months ago. (Northtowne is near my girlfriend's work)

I expect to see more of this kind of thing in Reno. We've been suffering MASSIVE unemployment. We have a huge tent city, and many of the homeless and jobless are meth addicts or drunks.

Good thing my significant other and I are armed to the teeth.

www.usatoday.com...

The man surrendered to police after about six hours.

He had feared he was about to be fired.
