What made your friend want to walk up to you?
Was it because he was afraid of your 'friends' ?
was he concerned that they didn't seem like your real friends?
Was he just coming up to say "hey" but something wouldn't let him?
Did you look happy in his dream?
Did the 'friends' have a good vibe, or creepy vibe?
Were they wearing party clothes, or regular clothes?

sometimes the little details can help with the interpretation.

At this point, all I can say is, there are 4 forces at work in this dream.
You, your friend, the other 'friends', and the force holding your real friend back.
It's hard to say that the group of people around you would really mean harm or not, because in the dream, it doesn't seem like any of them paid your friend any attention.

This is a tough call, but the answer before mines was pretty good.
