i am holding 2 domains for my business.
the websites so far have been built with the homepage kit of my provider.
now i stumbled across joomla and maybe this is the better choice for me.

i am a graphic designer with no web experiences - print guy
the homepage kit only allowed me 1 picture per site so i helped myself in creating animated gifs to show a bit more of my work.

anybody experiences with joomla and willing to give me a brief summary how to start.
i got the software on my desktop but don.t dare to touch it ;D

Joomla itself isn't very user friendly. The code backend is a complex mess. Template design isn't very easy either.

There are probably tons of tutorials out there on Joomla.

Let me know if you're interested in hiring a template designer. I can translate images of how a template should look (i.e. a scan of a mockup of the template design from a customer) into an actual working template design. I know this isn't what you're looking for, but who knows, I could use the money, and you could use the help?

I myself if I would you would start researching dreamweaver/photoshop(I am assuming you use this already)/Fireworks. basically all Adobe products are very helpful. You can fully build a website in Dreamweaver.

You need to download a program called WAMP server if you want to develop the site off-line, I've developed a few Joomla sites, I will try to dig up some stuff, I know there is a basic install / setup guide online, I will try to find it!

Heres the very first basic steps if you want to develop the site off line, you just unzip it and enter a few options in the config screen. The great thing about joomla is the web support forum is huge and you will get answers really quickly if you have a problem

If you want to develope the site online straight away quite a lot of web hosting packages have an option to install joomla with just one click, you have to look around to find one suitable for you though.

You don't need to know much code to make a good site with Joomla, only if you want to start making it do things it doesn't do out of the box, You can send me a private message if you get stuck and I will try and help

Yea and dreamweaver is for building sites as well. When Macromedia owned it it was anyways. I have not had them installed in a very long time. I ordered the CS4 and never got to install it. We moved and of course well it got left as I stated.

These days, many web hosts offer joomla through cpanel and it is a one click install.
