Q How is organically grown produce coded on a PLU label?
A The number 9 is added to the front of the regular four digit PLU code. (e.g. an organically grown
banana would be 94011.)
Q How is genetically engineered produce coded on a PLU label?
A The number 8 is added in front of the regular four digit PLU code. (e.g. a genetically engineered
vine ripe tomato would be 84805.)

Here is a list of changes in seed for GMO:

Pest resistance
Herbicide Tolerance
Disease resistance
Cold Tolerance
Drought Tolerance

What are all the changes to the cell structure of the seeds to produce these changes to the plant going to do to our bodies when we consume them. Knowing by the label which produce is Organic or GMO is a must for healthy consumer.

thank you! thats really good info. i only eat organic. my prayers was answered a few months ago when the town i live in opened a all organic grocery store called "Earth Fare" www.earthfare.com... i couldnt believe it. its about as big a "Publix" or any other main stream grocery store but every single item in it is organic...talk about good eatin. i just dont know why they opened it here...ive never heard of Earth Fare and this town just isnt the organic type town if you know what i mean.....but everytime i go in there its very crowded. anyway thanks for the info.....

Seeds aren't made of molecules, they're made of cells. The changes are in the DNA of the cells. Every new generation of plant has changes in its DNA from the last generation, organic or not, since the dawn of time, and it hasn't killed us off yet.

I think the real threat is obesity. It grows in harsher conditions and less fertile soil, therefore it picks up less nutrients and has less flavor in it. The food is less filling as a result, causing us to eat more of it - but we still get all the extra calories.
