WASHINGTON — Congress is moving rapidly just weeks before the start of the school year to speed billions of dollars in emergency education aid to states in hopes of reversing the layoffs of tens of thousands of teachers.
Some $10 billion in aid to school districts is set to flow after a 61-39 Senate vote Thursday — to be followed quickly by a House vote next week — in hopes that it will come in time for many school districts to reconsider teacher layoffs.
Thursday's vote was a hard-earned but partial victory for Democrats and President Barack Obama. Advocates said it could save the jobs of up to 300,000 teachers, police and other public workers.
more than 450 billion dollars left unspent from last years stimulus spending bill, still laying around, unspent and not assigned to any other projects so far.

I know terrible, let's just shut down the government ala 1995 and that will fix it.
THEN, we can cut taxes to near zero, and only fund the only thing worthwhile, the military. Which we will continuously have at war all over the earth.
Of course the only people that should pay taxes are the poorest Americans because you know, those rich Americans are just better people, and poor people are lazy and don't deserve their money anyway.
The Republican mentality in a nutshell. Let's not educate our children because you know, if the parent's can't afford private schools the kids aren't worth teaching anyway.
and we have seen the educational system for the past 20 years continually put out less educated people than the rest of the world.

20 years ago, in most families, both parents didn't have to work to make ends meet. A proud father (or mother) could work his ass off and provide for his family by himself....letting the other parent stay home with their kids and always be there for them...take them to the bus stop...be home when their kids get home from school...help them with homework...etc.
Not anymore....I have a 1 year old daughter....obviously not in school yet. Anyway, this is how my day goes. I get up at 5 in the morning, get my daughter up, give her a bottle, change her diaper and clothes, hurry up and get ready for work, then take her to daycare where she stays for 10/11 hours....and there isn't a DAMNED thing I can do about it. It's a sad thing when essentially a stranger spends nearly as much time with your own kid than the parents do.
But anyway, this is how it will be when she is in school. Odds are I'll be working, along with my wife, and she will have to stay somewhere till we are home. We'll both be tired and try to do our best....but it's not the attention we should be able to give.
People always bring up homeschooling....HOW? How can you do that when both parents work? Have your daycare teach them? Well that kind of defeats the whole purpose doesn't it?
Home schooling is a luxury.

Anyway, my whole statement is part of the problem of our education system IMO. It ALL starts at home. Families aren't together like they used to be in the past.

20 years ago there were acutally more good paying jobs here 20 years ago there was less unions, less regualtions and things didnt cost as much......
without the miltiary and national defense there is nothing else....in the brink of an eye everything you know would be gone. think not?

English in the United States is actually the lingua franca. It's the common custom language, but it is not the official language, I have worked jobs where I primarily spoke Russian, or Armenian, and I have also worked jobs where I spoke primarily Spanish. The reason was that there were more people speaking those languages than there were people who spoke English.

I am typing in English because this is an English/American website, and the T&C state that I am to converse in English. If I was posting on a Russian website, I would type in Russian.

Well, I never went to college, the reason? I am poor, so Republicans made sure to see to it that poor people like me aren't able to go to college cause obviously I am not worthy of higher education based on my financial laziness.

Illegals pay taxes. And amazingly enough, so do us poor people! GASP! That's right, whenever I go to a store and buy something, I pay, wait for it, wait for it, A SALES TAX!
