Paralysed patients could soon be using implanted brain transmitters to operate bionic limbs, it has been revealed.

British engineers are developing the technology, which employs tiny microchips to sense nerve messages, decode the signals, and turn thought into movement.

They hope within five years to be offering patients with damaged spinal cords robotic devices that will enable them to move their arms or legs at will.
Link.

Hadnt noticed this on ATS yet, it would be great to see this come to light. The Bionic Age is approaching fast.

I agree, this is just the beginning.

200 years until everybody has some form of cyborg tech?

500 years until 90 per cent of the race is predominantly machine?

Great news for paralysed people over the next ten years though by the look of it.

The present use intended for these are medical, but youve got to ask yourselves when will the military get hold of these and what would the limitations of them be once they do have em?.

Well, they are already using Blue Tooth artificial limbs that have been tested on soldiers that lost their legs.
There is a brain implant that allows blind people to see through special glasses.
There are already robotic lift assist exoskeletons that allow a person to lift and carry more weight than they normally would.
Computers are down to the cell phone size and globally portable and useful.

It makes sense to tie all of these together and in the not so distant future. Of course it will be tested in both the medical and military fields before it goes much further.

But soon, and without a doubt, there will be Darth Vader type people moving about. From there, its not much of a leap until we reach the level of new humanity seen in movies like "Gamer", "Surrogate", or "Terminator".

Years ago, I wrote a conspiracy theory based on the evolution of these products and their potential uses. Its a love/hate seeing these possiblities getting closer and closer to reality.

Lol ( sorry lol )

Can you open your eyes ?

What is your car ? your telivision, internet computer, phone ? Electricity ? Books ? Language ?

It's been 200 hundred we begun the so called "technological singularity".

The question here is do you want to keep human values ?

Some may say : any human position is an illusion, they are right, a lot of thing influence a normal human being system ( in itself and from its environnement, and its database of knowledge that some human think describe theirself ... )

They are right : knowledge (information ) does not mean anything : the position you take describe yourself individually and collectivelly.

What is human, is : the equilibrium of "social interraction" ( desire ) vs "individualism" ( the capacity to analyse and think) , that mades human species to be the most intellegent being on planet earth.
