Well not really. But would seem that the beloved icon of fark.com, “Touchdown Jesus” is no more.

It is with no heavy heart that I bid a fond farewell to the gaudy statue of the Solid Rock Church. I always found the monstrosity to be an abomination every time I drove past it. And drive past it I did as it was only 15-17 miles away from where I live.

Local rumors contended that the founder of the church was a big time drug dealer. Personally I would not know, as I have never met the man. But I have drove past his house on a number of occasions and lavish is on the low side of describing the property.

It would appear that this happened earlier tonight while I sat peacefully enjoying a passing thunderstorm and talking away in chat with fellow members. I leave you all with some before and after pictures.

MONROE — The large Jesus statue iconic to Interstate 75 in Monroe was destroyed following an apparent lightning strike during a thunderstorm.

Motorists were stopped along the highway and around the Monroe area to watch the 62-foot King of Kings statue burn. The fire was reported at 11:15 p.m. Monday, June 14. Within minutes, all that was left was the steel frame of the statue at Solid Rock Church, 904 N. Union Road.

Now that is Ironic and funny!

A statue of Jesus (idol) got struck by lightening and burnt to a crisp.

I guess "God" doesn't take too kindly of idolatry mocking Jesus.

If there is a God behind this (or spaghetti monster), I give it 2 thumbs up.

Hilarious!

What a monstrosity of a statue.

I'd be glad it's gone too if I had to look at it every day.

Judging by the statues hand position, he was askin' for it.

Joke... that is pretty ominous looking, the whole situation that is, but I wouldn't look too much into it.

Think about it.

It is a huge planet.

What are the chances of lightning striking that statue?

The statue has been struck down by a power bigger than lightning.

"Do not worship graven images" - what about Denver airport?

How did a statue made out of stone burn? Am I missing something?

Do we know it was made of stone?

If it was, that was your Lord God striking it down.

If it wasn't...?

It obviously wasn't made of stone...you can see the structural framing in the after picture...

But that...has to be the single most funny thing I've ever seen...

Oh, 'Touchdown Jesus,' you have been smitten by the Lord (or Flying Spaghetti Monster.) For not putting up with the vuvuzeula (sp?) at the World Cup football games. Your touchdown hands have no room for a 3 foot horn.

Don't flame me for intertwining American football with world football. I just like being a smart alek some times.

Sucks for the owner that it burned down, but boy was it a sight to not see. The statue not the fire.

I am feeling good that is not stone, because that would have some smiting in there, and that would not have been good.

Whew! One more day we don't have the end of the world.

In the first pic it looks like he was asking God for help,
because he was never gonna fit on that little cross

Hey did ya hear the one,

Jesus walks into a bar,
Chucks 3 nails on the counter
and says, "Can you put me up for the night?"

I'm gonna burn in hell

I rarely, if ever, literally laugh out loud when I'm reading, but that one got me.

if that is from same system that rolled through Texas and Arkansas over the last few days I believe it-it was not your usual lightning or thunder

Actually it wasn't that bad of a thunderstorm as it went through. But "Touchdown Jesus" is about 17 miles away on the other side of the county from me.

And I cannot wait for daytime pictures to filter in.
