BP Builds 'Responders Village' for Cleanup Crews

WSJ

VENICE, La.—BP PLC is erecting a small village to house workers laboring to clean up the environmental disaster in the Gulf of Mexico.

Oil-spill responders have just started moving in to the camp-like collection of trailers, tents and portable toilets about eight miles from Venice. It will house up to 1,500 of the workers...BP is also fitting out ships to serve as floating hotels...

How many people will be needed to respond to this spill?

This "small village" in Venice, LA is capable of housing 1,500 people! And Venice is one of at least 12 known "command centers"!

And on top of this, BP is also turning ships into "flotels" to house even MORE workers! BP doesn't state how many flotels they intend to have, nor how many workers they can house, but the article does mention that one flotel would cost "$200,000 a day to operate"!!!

"We plan to stay here for months," said Frederick Lemond, Plaquemines Parish director for BP.

Looks like there is job security for the oil spill workers.....if they don't mind the health hazards!!!

A good way to keep the workers isolated from the media, especially the fhotels, so they won't tell what a catastrophe this spill is and the extent of the damage and the adverse health affects the workers are experiencing.
motherjones.com...
I would hope however that they still have www access so they can get the word out eventually.
