Oh the irony of people like murdock wanting to control news and centralize it, has cost them the ability to sell it to the public and shape public opinion.

Don't you love it when something they do has unseen consequences by them.

Like pointed out in the ipad conspiracy thread, centralized news has cost the news media big time.

The world of irony strikes again.

Fox is a business first, a news provider second.

If you look at it in its proper context, which is as a business, then I'd say they're probably doing alright. Part of their business is covering up unfavorable stories by taking (what amounts to a bribe) advertising money (bribes) from corporations (like Monsanto, or Pfizer) to skew the facts or ignore the story completely.

Beyond that, it's hard to compete with the major news networks. When's the last time you saw a new news channel pop up on your TV?

I think it's the competetion and new media that's impacted the ability to shape public opinion. Obviously there's still big money and influence in what's presented - but there are thousands of outlets and interpreters of the news now - can't spin so well when you don't have a captive audience.

Unintended consequences is a great call on this one!
