Special relationship between UK and US is over, MPs say

I for one would prefer the current relationship with the US to ended.. server all ties and start again.. that is if a new start is possible with the Obama adminstration.

I feel the same way about our relationship with Europe and the rest of the World..

We are as a nation neither one thing or the other at the moment, we are simply a non-nation in my eyes hanging on the coat tails of another nation by a corrupt political and coporate elite on both sides of the Atlantic.

Just look at how the American coporate military machine gets away with operating here without congressional over sight and how we get away with things in the US without Parliments over sight..

The corrupt on both sides of the Altantic use the special relationship to get away with things they've promised not to do.

Just look at the US/UK next Gen nuke developements in the UK that circumvent the NPT to see a blatant example of that misuse of power on both sides of the Atlantic.

Lets scream at Iran while breaking the NPT ourselves, what a joke.

So for me, it is about time a British PM stood up for Britian and worked with those nations we have real historical ties with, like the Nordics, The Dutch, Portugal, Australia, Canada etc..

All the while we do need to accept the special relationship is only for the corrput on both sides of the Atlantic, it is of no use to anyone else.

Right, but what I'm saying is that they never said that the partnership is over. All they said was that they just need to be more willing to stand up for their own national interests. As an American, I see no reason why that would mean that they would have to give up a partnership or a relationship with our country... unless I'm missing something.

WOW you want them to come out and say the partnership is over that is a huge step, I'm guessing they will be taking little steps to further themselves from the Bully which is hated by all the kids in the play ground.. I seen it on movies

Your right about the US being complicit. The British government, however, was only complicit in murdering 52 and woulding 700 more in the 7/7 attacks.

But the security firm running the "mock exercises" in London that day is an ex CIA man, so probably the US is complicit in murdering 3052 people.

These dynasties, companies or societies or weekly-coffee-morning -what-have-yous owe no allegiance to any particular country: they're no more British than they are Martian (cue thread about how they're Martians ).

To topic. The "special relationship" will persist through the close historic links especially cultural, economic and in specialist areas such as intelligence. I think that in the last year or so the UK has begun to appreciate that much of the "relationship" has been one way and is never reciprocated and often US arrogance demeans efforts and attempts. Indeed, the Obama Administration treated the British PM shoddily (e.g. the gift of the DVDs) and a US official close to Obama is reported to have said...

There’s nothing special about Britain. You’re just the same as the other 190 countries in the world. You shouldn’t expect special treatment.
