I thought this worth a mention. March 15th was the 25th anniversary of the .com.

But things really didn't ret ramped up till later, though it is hard to imagine life before the net.

It's really been a quarter of a century since the first .com domain name was registered on the web.

The now-defunct company Symbolics registered for Symbolics.com on March 15th, 1985. But the dot-com boom began not with a bang, but a little noticed click.

According to VeriSign, only five more .com domain names were registered all of that year.

It took another decade for the Internet to take off. Why? In 1985, the Internet was mostly limited to large companies, universities and governments.

happy birthday

I remember playing games in the 90s over who had a site yet. Now I probably won't do business with you if you don't have a website.

I am surprised no one had anything to add to this. The very first .com was a company called Symbolics, which is no longer in business.
What an appropriate name.
