Pentagons future fighter aircraft doubles in cost

www.cnn.com

The cost of the Pentagon's newest fighter jet will be more than double the original price, solidifying the F-35 joint strike fighter as the most expensive Pentagon weapons program ever.

At a Capitol Hill hearing on Thursday, the Pentagon's chief weapons buyers said numerous problems over the almost 10-year program have forced the cost of the aircraft to go from $50 million a jet in 2001 to about $113 million.

114 million is actually more than double the 50mil cost!

How can "numerous problems" more than DOUBLE the cost of something...weren't the repairs to the LHC after it broke cheaper than that?

"It's a bit frustrating to hear the secretary of defense as short a time ago as last August to tell us that everything is OK," McCain said

So either the cost doubling was being kept secret, or the reason for the cost doubling just happened recently. Hmmm.

Well maybe they should have stayed with the F-22..

But the F-22 would have been more expensive in the long run anyway because of all the hours of maintenance required for every hour of flight.

Still, as always this is more and more expensive, we could ask a question, what will protect more the USA, saving money and not being bankrupt, or having a fifth generation fighter?

Exactly. We don't have any real enemies we haven't created. What nations are currently hostile to us with any ability to actually win a war agianst us? All great empires crumble from the inside, the U.S. is no different.

I work for Moog Aircraft which supplies all the actuation and flight controls in four contracts. The state of the art was put at a whole new level with success. But at a high cost per shipset increase.
LM takes the increase on up the chain. I'm certain the $115m is well scrubbed and real.

Well, we now know the true cost... I wonder if it compares at all with the true value of the thing?

Sure, everything has a cost, and people must be paid and prices increase as our dollar inflates, but how much is contrived profit?
