Obama is soft on space warfare. This is just another attempt to take America down a notch. Everybody knows the high ground (the sky, the Moon) is very important for continued military supremacy.

The other possibility is that this is a continued cover-up of the Moon landing hoax. If you didn't go there, then you have to shrug off going back. ''Money'' is a lame excuse. Does Obama and his Socialist buddies think that America is not interested in military capability and national security? I can hear it now.... ''It is too costly to protect ourselves. We will outsource our lives to China. The global communists are better at controlling costs, and I'll be sitting down with them for a beer on Tuesday.''

Maybe Stanley Kubrick really did give NASA the idea to fake the landings with ''towers of glass'' projection screens behind mock sets.

We have heard that space travel is too dangerous, even though it was supposedly accomplished safely 40 years ago. We have also heard that robots would be a good replacement for astronauts. Why not send the robots to the Moon?

Returning to the moon was supposed to be a working experiment for the big "hop" to Mars.Setting up a base there has many advantages ie: if anything fubars its closer to us to get an evac team to.

Also,a semi permanent base there gives the astrochimps more time to develop ways to mine for elements that are needed for rocket refueling for more deep space exploration.

Any move to curtail space exploration is disenfranchising the future of our children, and is a slap in the face to us.

So please POTUS,stop spending trillions on imperialism, and instead spend a few paltry billion on enlightening our future.

Sorry, just don't have that kinda folding money in the budget right now. What with "cash for clunkers", Obamacare, and all the bailouts to his banking buddies, Obama has to make cuts somewhere.

What?? It's not easy to get to the moon. That's why it cost somewhere between $20 and $25.4 billion in 1969 Dollars, which is about $136 billion in today's money.

And no, no one else is going to build a 'death ray' on the moon, as there is no such thing as a 'death ray', and no nation on Earth has the financial capacity to waste so much money on such a pointless exercise.

Oh, my, 136 BILLION? You're right, we can't WASTE that money on something pointless like space travel, because we gave more than that to the banksters to reward them for raping the economy! Much better use for that money!

I'd say this just pretty much proves the 69 Moon landing was faked. If they could do it back then with a vessel made of tinfoil and computers that were weaker than the laptop I'm holding here, it should be a piece of cake now.

You said it yourself - there's no reason to go back there. We only went when we did because it was a race between the US and Russia.

NASA could use the money on something better than international posturing. This is supposed to be about science, not waving privates at each other.

yes there are no natural resources on the moon. . . . seriously no reason to go back?

1. Space based outpost

2. Natural Resources

3. Tourism

4. The chinese already own enough American resources

5. Science and space exploration

I suppose you believe the moon is a valueless lump of blue cheese. . . .

The Review of Human Space Flight Plans committee (which recommended NOT going to the moon) was led by Norm Augustine. Norm Augustine was a former CEO of Lockheed Martin. If Steven Greer's information concerning alien technology being in the hands of corporations now and not the government's hands is accurate than Lockheed Martin would be on the list of companies most likely to have this information. If the stories of alien moon bases are real and the aliens don't want us there (which is why the Apollo missions were cut short ever after being fully funded and built) and Norm Augustine was in the know due to working at Lockheed than most likely he "passed the message" from MJ12 to cease the moon missions or the "world will know the truth." If we are indeed working with aliens who are benevolent creatures who want us eventually to be part of the galaxies' civilizations and the timing isn't right for whatever reason than the powers that be would craftfully make the moon mission go away to come again another day... Also, if Obama is indeed planning on disclosure and since we are having financial difficulties than Obama would know about the secret spaceships, Nasa being a front for these ships, would also know about alien moon bases, etc. etc. than (if I was him) why spend the money going to the moon if he already knows all of this and America's secret toys and wants to keep on the aliens good side because frankly our little planet is toast without their help than not going to the moon would make sense. (sidenote: Bush junior started the moon return idea - his father Bush senior was head of the CIA therefore would know all of the above- Republican's military connection, shooting down UFO's, let's piss them off and go back to the moon so we can shoot down more of them etc etc and get into the interplanetary war.... whoaa slow down haus!)

Space exploration is a massive financial excercise, with the returns only in probabilities.

Even with US, a rich nation, with only 300million people, it had proven to be a frightening fiscal nightmare. Do you think the 1.3 billion people of China and another 1.2 billion people from India, both little or no social spending will allow such profilagate spending by the govt and yet hope to stay in power?

Their lap dogs may squel in delight and sing the praises, but the mases' discontent will only spread if their govt go ahead with space programme when millions are starving or denied medical care, education and better infrastructure support in their country.

I disagree completely. United states is wasting 600 BILLION ANNUALLY for military, while paying less than 20 billion for NASA. And scientific and technological returns of those 20 billion are immense.

And I doubt that if China or India started to spend considerable money on space exploration, their population would be concerned... They would not care...

Agreed. I am coming out of prolonged ATS silence just to answer this issue.

The Military Space Program must be very far along indeed, to make NASA superfluous. This Administration just proved its short-sighted idiocy by killing America's only viable civilian space transportation effort.

Think of the millions of jobs lost, the economy down another notch.

Think of a killer impactor coming, with America powerless to stop it.

The Obamanation is: We All Live In District 9.

The Constellation Program contractors better keep the plans and the parts hot; three more years is a very short time.
