Fear of the poor is hampering Haiti rescue

Many aid workers are reported to have orders not to venture out without armed guards which are not there at all, or only after long debates with the UN military command. The UN has lost a number of staff in the quake, and is not keen to risk more lives.

The Haitian people seem to scare aid workers more than Somali warlords, Darfuri Janjawid or Afghan Taliban. Frightened Dutch aid workers abandoned a mission without reaching the collapsed building where people were trapped, and frightened doctors have left their patients unattended.

They want to help! Why would they scare them away! Makes no sense at all.

They want to help? No Sir. The military is only there to protect the property of the rich that survived the quake. They are there to make sure the poor do not cause them any trouble, start rioting or looting the elite.

safety is an issue there... and if i had a bunch of people that are in the position they are in ..I damn sure would not want to go out there without guns or armed escorts... and evn with escorts i still want a gun,

Haitians are notoriously violent, as far as crime goes.. they're undoubtedly going to be out in the street causing mayhem (the criminals that is), taking advantage of the situation.

More scarier than the poor looters and gangster wannabes ... is the Haitian Government. I am kinda surprised there has not been a major military crackdown by the governing powers.. which is probably why crime is so high, they sense the government is weakened.

And the Dutch are sending a military team to assist their aid team. Nothing big of course, just enough troops for the small aid group.
