How do wars, get countries out of depressions??

I have trouble understanding this. The main thing that I believe it does, is create jobs. Such as building weapons, all that industrial stuff etc.

It is said that WW2 got the US out of the Depression because it got people working again.Well, couldn't the US technically create this same effect out of thin air?

Of course, there is no war in WW2 caliber to build things for . But couldn't we just create things and then destroy them just like wars do?

Couldn't we just destroy a huge deal of war equipment, and hire people to just rebuild? That is what war does, right?

WWII besides the numerous other things it did, it removed a lot of people out of the job market.

Due to the loss of lives their was a large demand for workers after the war. With few workers to choose from, industry had to pay very good wages for the time. Which in turn caused a boom due to spending by the workers.

You can see now, even before the collapse of the economy, wages were very low for the last 30 years. In fact, wages have been falling since the early 70's. Real wages have steadily declined for the last 40 years.

I believe both immigration and globalization has caused wages to decline due to the overabundance of labor.

I also believe this has been intentional. Over the last 40 years, an estimated 60 million people, through both legal and illegal immigration plus their children, have called America home. This is a low ball figure. Some estimate as high as 90 million immigrants in the last 40 years.

One of those numbers that NO ONE wants to address.

Companies get very good government contracts during war.

For example a subsidiary of Halliburton won a bid worth $15 million and it was just one of 10 contracts up for bid at that time by the US Army.

Not too mention in WWII the US made a lot of large loans of money and equipment to the UK, that they only just finished paying off a few years ago.

Then there is the resources that are taken, land, cash, valuables of all kinds (especially in WWII).

WAR IS A RACKET

WAR is a racket. It always has been.

It is possibly the oldest, easily the most profitable, surely the most vicious. It is the only one international in scope. It is the only one in which the profits are reckoned in dollars and the losses in lives.

A racket is best described, I believe, as something that is not what it seems to the majority of the people. Only a small "inside" group knows what it is about. It is conducted for the benefit of the very few, at the expense of the very many. Out of war a few people make huge fortunes.

In the World War [I] a mere handful garnered the profits of the conflict. At least 21,000 new millionaires and billionaires were made in the United States during the World War. That many admitted their huge blood gains in their income tax returns. How many other war millionaires falsified their tax returns no one knows.

How many of these war millionaires shouldered a rifle? How many of them dug a trench? How many of them knew what it meant to go hungry in a rat-infested dug-out? How many of them spent sleepless, frightened nights, ducking shells and shrapnel and machine gun bullets? How many of them parried a bayonet thrust of an enemy? How many of them were wounded or killed in battle?

Out of war nations acquire additional territory, if they are victorious. They just take it. This newly acquired territory promptly is exploited by the few – the selfsame few who wrung dollars out of blood in the war. The general public shoulders the bill.

Why do you think the US likes to be constantly at war with someone? Profit, profit, profit.

We could do some new deal type programs but most of that would be infrastructure projects that would only last a few years. Then it's back to the drawing board.

Let's not forget spoils of war folks.

All of the German art, and that sort of thing which just "vanished" after the allies invaded Germany and parts of Russia after WWI and II were worth billions of dollars if it were happening today.

Also it puts everybody in the country to work, the government spends A LOT of money on social and war programs and usually can make the money back very quickly after the war ends as there is a high demand for workers and a lack of said workers.

As stated above companies have to pay very large wages to entice folk to work for them.

It only works if you have an entry and an exit strategy, this is why the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan have put you all in the hole, it was a blind war..
