It found that two-thirds of the 66 countries met the criteria for today's requirements.

But only nine countries, including Japan, Sweden and Latvia, were ready for future demands, such as watching high-definition video.

This is a big improvement on last year's study, which found only Japan was ready for the future.

Korea, Japan, Sweden, Lithuania, Bulgaria, Latvia, Netherlands, Romania, and Denmark are the only one's who are fit for the future of broadband.

Surprisingly the US is not classified as fit for the future.

it's not really that surprising. we're like 19th on the list for broadband penetration for population in the world. pretty sad when you think about how we're supposed to be the shining beacon of the free world. speedmatters.org has all sorts of information on this.

The US historically lags behind in the consumer availability of cutting edge technology. It's a pretty big place. Lot and lots of stuff needed you know? Japan isnt that big (and Im assuming only 1/2 of Korea) so its more economical to replace old tech with new tech, there just isnt much to it. Here though, big tech advances start in "tier 1" cities (think big NFL towns). Then roll out to "tier 2" cities (think the rest of the NFL towns).
