It is so common to see people pissing and moaning about a few million here or there (a drop in the bucket, when you actually think about it), but when the Iraq War has been costing us $8-12 billion a month, in addition to thousands of American lives, they support it.

I'll give you the same response I gave to the other baiter/troller:

Start your own thread if you want to talk about another topic.

Stop deflecting, trolling, and baiting.

Title is misleading, Al Gore "backing" Fisker is like Michael Jordan "Backing" Nike, no more than an endorsement..... and btw what is the point of a luxury hybrid car? especially seeing the article states "its more of a status symbol than anything" and then goes on to say that most will just sit in peoples drive ways, while they are probably DRIVING the older car they had that is not a hybrid and damaging the eco-system anyway... idiotic, completely idiotic. (although the Fisker Karma is a really sweet looking car and if i had 89k I'd buy one, but I'd DRIVE it)

agreed, but honestly, I don't think it's wrong to piss and moan that our tax dollars are going to a COMPANY to produce a LUXURY ITEM that the average TAX PAYER could not afford. I think it's our DUTY to be pissy about something like this, now if this nearly 600 million was going to a good cause, such as producing hybrid vehicles at a cheaper rate for the average American consumer, then I can see the justification for the loan, but to blatantly say "We are taking your hard earned money, giving it to a company to make something that costs and item that is going to costs MORE THAN YOUR YEARS SALARY" is a bit of a slap in the face to the average Joe Blow....

Hang on.

Matt Rogers, who oversees the department's loan programs as a senior adviser to Energy Secretary Steven Chu, said Fisker was awarded the loan after a "detailed technical review" that concluded the company could eventually deliver a highly fuel-efficient hybrid car to a mass audience. Fisker said most of its DOE loan will be used to finance U.S. production of a $40,000 family sedan that has yet to be designed.

So if I've got this right, Al Gore "backed" them by putting a down payment on one of the cars they make now, and later on they get a loan that will allow them to design and build a family car that's competitive with the upper middle market in the USA.

Al Gore gets a new car, and the USA gets a new car factory, and Americans eventually get to buy reasonably priced domestic hybrids.

How did we get from that to the war in afghanistan and gore-bashing tirades?

I get the feeling that, were this anyone other than Al Gore, you would be praising the entrepreneur for his sensible business decision.

Sensible business decision? Like his carbon credit proposal that will bankrupt us?

Ah, so it's not the Bush lies that led us into spending 8-12 BILLION a MONTH in Iraq, nor the over-bloated military budget that's going to bankrupt this country. Not even the fact Bush led the bailout movement to the bank's to the tune of 700 Billion, no it's going to be Al Gore who, as far as I'm concerned, is still fighting to bring environmental improvements to the country, and is even leading by example how to find, fund or finance companies whose products may one day be made here.

Speaking of lies, OP, you lied to us in the title of this thread, you purposely changed it to reflect your propaganda agenda, so why should anyone extend you any credibility?

Apparently your so blinded by right-wing hate and extremism that you lost sight of the fact that this country was nearly brought to ruin under republican leadership. Instead of taking to task all the things that went wrong under Bush, which includes record deficit spending and massive government expansion, you're still going to post sour grapes about democrats and non-political figures like Al Gore. Maybe you should really try to see what Al Gore is trying to achieve here instead of spewing right-wing bile.

He realized that America is a lost cause and moved on, I don't blame him.

Who wants to essentially be ridiculed for wanting to help the environment? Al Gore is always welcome in Canada!

He is ridiculed because he is a hypocrite. He does not want to help the environment. He wants to help himself to lots of money using the environment as leverage to do so. I would bet we could bundle everybody on ATS together and his carbon footprint would be bigger than all of us.

Take him. Please!!!

Answer the question. How much are 800+ deaths of soldiers in Afghanistan to you...or the almost 6000 deaths in Iraq?

What am i supposed to state to you? That you believe in nothing and are only here posting garbage each day? And it's not just you...many on the left do it as well...but that is besides the point.

YOU CAN"T CRITICIZE DEBT WHEN YOU SUPPORT IT. YOu cannot be against abortion when you support DEATH. Grow some freakin integrity.

And this has what to do with Al Gore, government loans or Finland? Start your own troll topic elsewhere.

So, Al Gore didn't get the loan as your post states. Fisker, a California start up company got the loan.

And the initial production of this hybrid, less than half of which will be sold in the US, will take place at Valmet, in Finland, for quality and speed reasons. But the plan is to manufacture in the US in the future.

Sometimes these threads never get a follow-up. Looks like the taxpayer took a $504M hit on this one. Thanks Al!!

WASHINGTON -- A tiny car company backed by former Vice President Al Gore has just gotten a $529 million U.S. government loan to help build a hybrid sports car in Finland that will sell for about $89,000.
:
"This is not for average Americans," said Leslie Paige, a spokeswoman for Citizens Against Government Waste, an anti-tax group in Washington. "This is for people to put something in their driveway that is a conversation piece. It's status symbol thing."

online.wsj.com...

So basically they are saying there are not "15,000" Americans who buy or appreciate such European Luxy,,in a SportsCar,,
