More than 40 people died in bombings in Iraq on Thursday in the worst violence since U.S. combat troops withdrew from urban areas at the end of last month.

...

The day's violence began at 6:30 a.m., when a suicide bomber in a police uniform and carrying a radio and a pistol knocked on the door of an investigator in the anti-terrorism police force in the northern city of Tal Afar. When the officer opened the door, the bomber detonated his explosive belt, killing the man, his wife and son, said Maj. Gen. Khalid al-Hamadani, police chief of the northern Ninevah province.

As people gathered in the aftermath, another suicide bomber detonated his explosives belt, al-Hamadani said. The coordinated attack killed a total of 34 people and injured 70. A day earlier, bombs in two Shiite villages near Mosul, another northern Iraqi city, killed 16 civilians and injured more than two dozen.

The article goes on to mention roadside bombs, bombs in a market and a trash can bomb that also went off in Iraq. None of these were targeted at the few troops that are left, they were all targeted at Iraqis. I guess that disproves all the claims that have flown around here about the insurgents not targeting innocent people.

They can no longer use US troops as an excuse for killing their own countrymen, this is all on them. This is what the troops have been over there trying to stop for the last few years. Now they've almost all been pulled out, and the attacks are still happening. It should be abundantly clear now that our troops have been the whipping boys for the actions of insurgents and suicide bombers, and not the cause.

Well that would be one way of looking at it.
Another would be that entering Iraq was a BAD IDEA.

And no amount of rationalization, political spin, or arguments along the lines of: "well, whatever the reason given for invading, the country's better off now."
can change that fact

Guys.....please.

Have you seen the size of the US embassy in Iraq? It's 10X's the size of any our our embassies in any country IN THE WORLD. It looks like a gigantic prison from the outside....look it up.

We aren't leaving...we will never leave. Don't believe it for a second.

I think you're missing the point here. Whether or not we should have gone there is a completely different subject from the troops getting the blame for everything the insurgents and suicide bombers have been doing for years.

Every time a suicide bomber blew up a market, it was blamed on the troops. Every time a roadside bomb went off and killed civilians, it was blamed on the troops. Every time insurgents shot and killed innocent people, it was blamed on the troops. Half the people who post regularly in military related threads would chime in with claims that if the troops weren't there then the insurgents wouldn't be setting off bombs. They'd claim that the targets were US troops or those that were helping them.

This single article shows that suicide bombers are still targeting markets full of innocent people and the insurgents are still setting off roadside bombs when most of the troops have left already and the few that are left aren't a visible presence. The insurgents aren't the freedom fighters defending their homeland that people keep trying to claim they are. They're a bunch of loons killing innocent people, and always have been.

We have over 300 embassies around the world. How is having an embassy in Iraq any different from the other 300+ we have, aside from it being the largest?
