Drought drives 1500 to Mass Suicide

www.news.com.au

DEBT related to crop failures has driven more than 1500 farmers in the Indian state of Chattisgarh to commit suicide.

The Press Association reports that the farmers committed suicide because they had no way to pay crippling debts.

“(Money-lenders) lure farmers to take money but when the crops fail, they are left with no option other than death," Organic Farming Association of India spokesman Bharatendu Prakash told The Press Association.

Many people depend on seasonal crops in the agricultural state, but this year has seen Chattisgarh hit by falling water levels and droughts.

“Only God can save the ones who do not have a bore well," one resident said.

The Indian Government recently waivered $15 billion worth of farmer loans, but it had no effect on those who were forced into private arrangements with local money-lenders.

More than 10,000 of India’s farmers have killed themselves in the past decade.

Is is devastating..The Indian culture is such that if someone cannot pay a debt its like loosing face in society and many prefer to end their lives. No offence meant to anyone but just wondering how many people in the western and US would take their lives for paying their debt.

Surely the Indian government can do something for these people.

i dont know alot about this but it sounds alot like what we used to do in america called share cropping.

of course they were a little smarter and at least dangled the carrot that one day it could be theirs if they work it off.

hmm india should learn from our manipulation of the lower classes to emply those measures more effectively to help control the population. i suspect their best and brightest are not in charge if these things are happening.

I recall reading about this epidemic of farmer suicide in India awhile back.

I I remember, many of these farmers had purchased GM seed at higher prices and had miserable yields at harvest.

As Germany is banning GM corn, and if you goolge the subject, you will find many accounts of problems that include a possible link to honey bee decline, traditional farmers getting sued and not able to sell crops that were conaminated with GM seed that through wind blowing this seed onto their land, caused their crops to be infringing on patents.

Even when counter-suits eventually found them innocent, due to the time to navigate the legal system, many had already lost fighting against huge corporations that kept them from conducting business.

In India, defaulting on a debt is about the biggest cause of despair throughout the farming industry, and leads to suicide on a grand scale.

Correct me if I am wrong on this, but I'm writing these accounts from memory.

You are correct and an excellent movie was made about it.

It is called " One Man, One Cow, One Planet - How to save the World "

How to save the world

trailer without quicktime player:

How to save the world - w/o quicktime

They will seem a little odd, and a bit flaky, but their results are
impossible to argue with.

I will take a little mysticism if I can get miraculous results they got
from heirloom organic seeds and some esoteric composting techniques.

A lot of ppl do not realize that monsanto made agent orange, and
then made the GM seeds with terminator genes to not provide
seeds for the next years crop.

This is largely why Norway and other decided to build the Doomsday
seed vault in the arctic on the Isle of Svalbard.

The Doomsday seed vault - why I scream for ppl to get heirloom seeds

If you do not prepare for what they are planning in the light of day,
then you will be but dust in the wind...

Rule # 1 of the Georgia Guidestones - only 500 million ppl on Earth.

Good Luck to all the good ppl !

No never happen....

When Prince Charles claimed thousands of Indian farmers were killing themselves after using GM crops, he was branded a scaremonger. In fact, as this chilling dispatch reveals, it's even WORSE than he feared.

Well the link is not working right! I'll see if I can fix it.
Nope still wont work. The links are on this page anyway:

(The GM genocide link)
Too bad the real story gets swept under the rug!
The reason they did this is so monsanto can take the land away!

I think they already did....Are you reading this article OP?

Let's hope this doesn't happen again. Poor farmers, nobody should EVER feel they have to kill themselves because they owe money.

It has been going on for a few years now, about 10,000 farmers
kill themselves per year in India due to the shady deals with
Monsanto GM crop failures and loans they are conned into.

The movie I mention in my prior post explains it all in far better
detail than I ever could hope to, unfortunately I cannot find the
full video just a trailer for it.

It is available on the torrents thou...
