That's what I'm saying.

I'm not sure what the usefulness of the "insert" key is on a pc. Isn't just to add something when you're typing?

But it isn't called insert. It is the key often to the right in a block with the page up and down. It would delete in the opposite direction from the back space.

In other words there isn't one on a MAC. I am not overlooking it. Thanks for your patience

Yeah I don't think we have that.

Are you going to be ok or is it going in the trash?

NO I am keeping it. I like it.

I was used to the two buttons is all and was wondering if I was missing something on the mac.

Daughter likes garageband, she would kill me.

just so you know, you can click on a folder (to hilite it) then command+c (copy) and go to another place on your mac and command+v (paste) -- to paste that folder anywhere you like. or files.

also if your mac gets the black screen (when a 85% semi-transparent overlay) happens over your normal viewing stating an error, just push your power button down for about 10 seconds, then the machine will shut down. -- that's called a hard restart.

tip #117

did you know?

while surfing the internet with your mac book that you can make the page scroll by sliding 2 fingers on the track pad!

1 finger controls your curser, then 2 fingers will create the scroll action.

i found this out a year after having 2 mac books over 8 years.

enjoy!

oh, try splitting your two fingers away from each other on the track pad.

Schrodog taught me that during my tutorial. It is an awesome trick. Thanks.

Keep them coming.

ah, sorry about that.

tip #23:

if you buy another mac, you can import all yout bookmarks, files, EVERYTHING to the new mac with one key stroke.

connect the two machines via a firewire cable and start the machine with the "t" key pressed. it will enter "target mode", then it imports all the goods, and bam, you have an exact copy of your other machine with files and preferences and everything!

also, if you have another mac in the house, you can connect to it via "sharing". you can grab files from your other mac OR you can do a share screen mode which is cool. great way to mess with who ever is on your other mac. you can take control of their mouse.

Is defraging something that needs to be done on a MAC and if so how is it done.

Thanks for all the answers and hints so far

The defrag argument for OS X is an ongoing one.

macfixit.com

Apple contends it is not necessary.

I have a couple of programs that can do it including idefrag and techtool pro.

Keep in mind that defragmenting a mac isn't the same as a windows pc. It cannot be done without an external drive. So you need to reboot from an external drive which contains OS X and the defrag software and do it from there.

Frankly, it's not something worth being concerned about unless you've had OS X running on a computer for many years.

And SchroDog swoops in with the answers

I do have an external HD but it is attached to a windows machine. And since this is new I won't be concerned for now.

Thanks for the link... bookmarked.

Any suggestions?

Hi bloggy,

Hard to tell off the bat what the source of the problem is.

What you might want to do is burn several others and see if they have the same problem. Also try to play the cd you have now on different players to see if it also skips there.

Did you burn this from itunes?

PS: I can't tell you how nice it is to see you again.

Nice to see you too, Schrodog..

I have played the cd in my car and on the player at work and it skipped on both.

The cd doesn't appear damaged. I bought the cd from itunes and burned it from there. Two (dare I say) windows popped up and not sure I clicked the right things.

It is the new Green Day cd.. and I wanted to listen to it at work
