Dan Rather's $70 Million Lawsuit Likely to Deal Bush Legacy a New Blow

Rather broadcast a story based on newly discovered documents which appeared to show that Bush, whose service in the Texas Air National Guard ensured that he did not have to fight in Vietnam, had barely turned up even for basic duty. After an outcry from the White House and conservative bloggers who claimed that the report had been based on falsified documents, CBS retracted the story, saying that the documents' authenticity could not be verified.

I really hope Dan is successful with his lawsuit. He's an example of a reporter trying to do the right thing and unfortunatley he bit the bullet. Leave it to the higher up cowards in his corporate food chain to bow to the pressure of the White House goons and the conservative bloggers for a story retraction and ultimately his career demise.

Best of luck Dan.

Dan Rather had a political agenda, he is no journalist, he will probably lose the lawsuit because he really doesn't have much to stand on other than the nationwide hate of Bush, which probably will cause there not be a fair trial anyhow

Dan Rather reported news that could not be verified as fact. That is why he was fired. He showed that he was biased and incompetent. Don't point out O'Reily or Colmes. They don't report the news, they run stories by other reporters and debate them, giving their opinions.

So on what bases does he think that he can win this lawsuit?

Isn't he kind of late filing? I wonder if there is a staute of limitations being he sued more then a year after the fact, may not go to trial
