I am a government attorney. Just the local kind of government.
It keeps me busy, so I like it okay. It's not nearly challenging enough, and I get frustrated at the ridiculous phone calls that I get every day.
For example, the other day someone called me because they wanted to know what the "code" was at the bottom of a postcard that they received. It was
a certified mail tracking number. I don't know why they thought this was a question for an attorney, but it at least made for a good story.
Other than that, my job is relatively boring and monotonous. I try to use my position to do some good, though. I treat everyone the way that I would
want to be treated, and I am very fair. I try to help people out of trouble, if I can... even though my job is to sue them. Hey... I'm on salary!
I don't get paid per case or per win, so I can do that kind of stuff!
I don't want to do this forever, though. In fact, I have just about had enough of the mindless work, and am considering a move to a different kind
of lawyering.
I have the possibility of getting hired as an ADA in a nearby city. I never really wanted to practice criminal law, but it would be a change, and
would challenge me. I would get a different kind of experience, which I always think is beneficial.
To tell the truth, I'd really like to be a judge one day. I am a very fair person, and I want a job with some variation. Plus, it would be nice to
wear that robe, and not have to worry about having a jacket that matched my pants.
