Pentagon: Saddam had no al-Qaeda links

An in-depth Pentagon review of Iraqi documents reveals there had been no operational link between Saddam Hussein and Osama bin Laden.

The Pentagon-sponsored study, scheduled for release later this week, confirms that Saddam Hussein's regime provided support to other terrorist groups operating against Iraqi exiles, Shia Muslims, Kurds and those he considered enemies of his regime.

According to an unnamed US official familiar with the report, however, no documents were found indicating a 'direct operational link' between Hussein's Iraq and al-Qaeda before the 2003 invasion.

US President George W. Bush and his aides used Saddam's alleged relationship with al-Qaeda and the supposed weapons of mass destruction in the country as arguments for invading Iraq.

The then secretary of defense, Donald Rumsfeld, claimed in September 2002 that Washington had 'bulletproof' evidence of cooperation between the radical terrorist network and Saddam's dictatorship.

Almost every claim by the Bush administration to build international support for the long-running Iraq war has so far turned out to be based on bogus or misinterpreted intelligence.

At what point....is enough proof of lies....enough? This administration's actions are criminal. This was a conspiracy to commit war.

Peace
