There is no extortion here.

The people will have to be laid off because the money Congress is denying is what pays their checks!

What do you think the money appropriated for the war goes to? It goes to things like this, paying our soldiers and other civilian workers. It doesn't just go to build bombs like so many liberals tend to believe.

The eleven million illegals is a good point to make in regard to the hundred thousand jobs they are threatening. Also if the reservists come home they will not have a paycheck from the government any more any way.

Why mention it ?

Why would GWB be able to send out the notice so quick?

Don't remember many other bills that said if you don't pass it we'll Fire people do you?

According to their website Department of Defense employs more than 700,000 civilians in an array of critical positions worldwide,

So how many of the 15% fired will be in the USA?

There websites says they are looking for people perhaps it would be more cost effective to retrain.

It's not extortion. It's just a fact.

If Hillary (or Obama) get in the Oval Office in 2008 there will be a ton of defense jobs on the line. Jobs in aerospace will suffer greatly. Intellegence positions. NASA too.

It's just the economic facts.

Why exactly is this extortion? If he were threatening to kill them, that would be extortion. But firing people because you don't have enough money to pay for them? I seem to recall that being a fact of life.
