Did anyone happen to watch the Colbert Report on Wednesday night 9/19? His guest was author Naomi Wolf who wrote a book called "The End of America: A Letter of Warning to a Young Patriot". I had no idea who she was or what her credentials were, but after seeing her interview I became very intrigued. She was comparing things that are happening now to previous dictatorships that have tried to squash a healthy democracy.

She brought up some good points that for a democracy to succeed, there has to be active involvement from society as a whole. If this participation doesnt happen, it is easy for a leader to impose steps that effectively eliminate democracy as we know it.

her talking points were the 10 steps that help bring about a dictatorship and she mentioned that today, our government has imposed about 7-8 of these steps.

Fascist America in 10 Steps

From Hitler to Pinochet and beyond, history shows there are certain steps that any would-be dictator must take to destroy constitutional freedoms. And, argues Naomi Wolf, George Bush and his administration seem to be taking them all

If you think that we are being taken over and turned into a police state, I highly suggest that you read each one of these 10 steps and decide for yourself. I found these very informational and they certainly pulled the wool from over my eyes to see what is really happening in this country.

Im glad you titled this thread "Fascist America in ten steps.

It seems this list is written with America in mind. It is not a list of how to make a fascist society, as she left plenty out. Rather, I am fairly sure this author picked ten of the most controversial items she feels can be interpreted as anti democratic, and can be associated with at least one historical event that happened in a fascist state. Although an unsettling read, it is by no means proof that America is becoming a fascist state. Basically, she didn't set out to have a logical systematic look at this relationship of democracy v fascism, rather, she specifically set out from the start to prove that America is becoming fascist.

The changing world can be interpreted to form an infinite amount of conclusions. I tend to stray from the ones involving a collapse of the sky upon my head.

You are correct that she wrote the book with America in mind because she is in fact an American, and thats who the main audience would be.

She provided different examples of instances where these events occured and the target was not America, but they were all historical in nature, Stalin, Hitler, etc. her 10 steps were supposedly derived from her research and studies into the topic. I'm sure she did leave some points out but the ones listed are the main ones to focus on.

Indeed these points are not proof positive that America is becoming a fascist state, but given the fact that almost all of the main points have been enacted or happened, that seems to be a good indication of where we are headed. But you are right, this book was helping her advance or project her agenda that America is becoming fascist.

I dont think the sky is falling, but these points that have happened give me enough reason to look up at the sky every now and then.

America has been a fascist state since its inception by masonic slave owners. The war on drugs, the endless spying and technology, the religious zealotism and cults, all indicators of a mental disorder, caused directly by the demons who are fascist unfeeling political zealots who use any way to change and destroy that which they dellusion themselves by.
Sure your free to get in your car and drive, be prepared for high fructose corn syrup, high gas prices, slave labor wages in many cases, forced debt cycles just to live in tolerable conditions. Humanity shouldnt have to put up with the notion that what is practical is always what is commonly accepted by sellouts to their own country. Im guessing after the revolutionary war, insurgents from many nations have come trying to take america for its own through religion, politics and secret societies, oh yeah, the military too. Its all been corrupt for years, no one here can convince me otherwise with simplistic rhetoric.

Revolutionary War? Are you talking about the war on terror? If so, that war is never going to be over. Also, have the insurgents not already infiltrated our country, according to the "agencies", in the form of so called"sleeper cells"? And America has already taken the population hostage with the religion, politics and military. Not to mention the secret societies which have all contributed to this mental captivity that they have imposed upon us all.

Indeed it has.

Outstanding post, DW. I’ll be sending this article around. It reminds me of how the USA now meets almost all of the planks of the Socialist platform.

Ya, this is an excellent post. I think we went over some of these before on ATS, on a previous thread, but, it was not made specifically towards America. I briefly glanced through what was there and its scary how much of that is here. Of course the news media doesn't pick it up. Like that one guys thread, we're going to hell in a handbasket.

On youtube she gives the talk from her book. It is really interesting and goes into greater depth than only the Colbert interview.

wutang it is her interpretation based on historic events, why she thinks america is heading towards facism. It is truly a dangerous to think, "it cant happen here", as she points out in historic political change, people still went on with their normal day to day lives. If you cant look at what is going on in this country and see that are rights and free way of life arent strategically being taken away, you need to open your eyes. I am sure people in nazi germany in the thirties thought everything was fine also.

Also saw her last night in that Colbert interview repeat (thank you writers strike!) In the next few days, I will be trying to absorb as much info about her works as I can.
