Unsecured girders led to Mesa bridge collapse

www.azcentral.com

An overpass under construction on the Loop 202 Red Mountain Freeway in east Mesa collapsed Thursday morning, sending 114 feet of roadway to the ground. Nobody was injured when a section of the westbound lanes of the bridge came down about 8:30 a.m. just east of Power Road. Doug Nintzel, a spokesman for the Arizona Department of Transportation, said nine of 11 unsecured concrete girders tumbled down, some landing in the Central Arizona Project canal.

ANOTHER BRIDGE! This could very well could be a coincidence of circumstance, but I have to ask the question.

What's up with bridges these days?

I'm really surprised that this didnt get more attention given the recent tragedy in MN.

Something is really odd about these collapses. If another bridge goes down within the next month, then this board is going to erupt in theories.

Brace yourself?
