Bush, Cheney admit Iraq had no WMD, take new tack

By Scott Lindlaw
ASSOCIATED PRESS

October 8, 2004

WASHINGTON – President Bush and his vice president conceded yesterday in the clearest terms yet that Saddam Hussein had no weapons of mass destruction, trying to shift the Iraq war debate to a new issue – whether the invasion was justified because Hussein was abusing a U.N. oil-for-food program.

These people keep flipflopping on reasons for invading.

First it was to oust Saddam because he had WMDs intent on destroying America/Israel.

Next it was to free the Iraqi people.

Then the terrorists in Iraq were the cause of 9/11.

Now its oil. Well at least they're being honest!

What will it be next, the stargate from Sumeria

The Bush hater crowd will do anything to build their numbers and defame the govt.....even if it means dragging up 3 year old stories.

Bush haters... Oh, how amusing.

I think this is relevant because we still have people here who positively INSIST that Iraq had WMD and they really went to Syria/Iran/Zimbabwe/Luxembourg/Tau Ceti/insert random enemy here...

At least with this article, people can see again that Bush HIMSELF has admitted there were none. I knew this, you knew this, but recent conversations have shown that not everybody knows this...

I believe that yes, at one time Iraq did indeed have WMD's. Gassing of the Kurds shows that. Maybe they used them all up on the Kurds, or destroyed them or moved them but they HAD them at one point.

well, it might not be new news, but it does point out that
there are actually other reasons for the liberation of Iraqi from
Saddams republican guard & baath party (aka, insurgents).

Thinking back on the hot topics of those times,
pre-invasion regime change of Iraq,
what about Saddams' (aka Nebuchadnezzar reincarnated)
fabled "Stargate", and the rock with 'magical properties' which
supposedly made him invincible & un-killable...??

i recall that some popular figures swore that a US future invasion
would be for the porpose of capturing that 'Stargate' apparatus
which Saddam had hidden in an underground, fortified bunker,
in or around Baghdad.
~recall that the invasion made a mad dash for Baghdad in actuality
on the spring equinox in March 2003~

i think the OP thread, is reminding us to sweep back all those
crumbs of half-truths the administration has scattered through
the nations collective conscious...to look again at the Iraq situation
and ask different questions

Build our numbers??? How can we build our numbers any more than they are? If Bush's approval rating gets any lower there gonna have the national limbo contest on the white house lawn.

Yes.....

Your point?

Having had them 20/30 years ago is no reason to invade them now! The whole inspection regime and subsequent intelligence all says Iraq disposed of all their weapons in the early 90's, as they were supposed too.

Besides, we knew he had them because we gave him the money and the technology to make it or buy the precursors off someone else.... We probably still have the receipts...

I was truly surprised that no WMD were found after the invasion. I expected something to be found even if Cheney had to push a wheelbarrow full of uranium into Iraq on his own.
