Deal may legalize millions of immigrants

news.yahoo.com

WASHINGTON - In a striking reach across party lines, the White House and key lawmakers agreed Thursday on a sweeping immigration plan to grant legal status to millions of people in the country unlawfully. Sealed after months of secretive bargaining, the deal mandates bolstered border security and a high-tech employment verification system to prevent illegal workers from getting jobs. President Bush said the proposal would "help enforce our borders......

Wow, this is not what it's all cut out to be.

The person will have to pay a fine and fees.

As well as the head of household has to go back to their own countries first. This is a headache and a half.

I don't see how this is going to fix anything.

Who came up with this idea?

its our goverment idiots at work. they want their mexican house keepers and cooks and gardeners with out getting into trouble for hiring illegals.
the fools are under the impression these lawbreakers want to work in menial poor paying jobs like the president saysd but in actuality they want the best paying jobs they can get. in my area the local moen water faucet plant is biggest employer and they are aggressively trying to hire mexicans because the illegals won't argue about being told at last minute that oh no you aren't going hoime now you got to stay and work 2 hours more. i know from experience there that the mexicans can't do no wrong a friend of mine in a supervisor meeting when they first started coming into plant said that they needed to speak and read english from a safety
reason the new mexican supwervisor they hired to work wiith them took offense and had that guy walked out and fired because of his comments that they needed to speak eglish was apparently racist language.

The bill is nothing more than amnesty, that will cost billions to American tax payers.

It will not end the rush of illegal across the borders and those that can not pay the fines will remind in hidden.

This is the biggest blunder since Regan amnesty and back then it was only 3 million immigrants, now 20 years later we have 12 and counting.

In another 20 years Americans will have lost this nation to Mexico but hey it will not matter anymore.

Because they will be the majority.

Our congress and government just spit on all of us while trying to please corporate America and the lobbyist paying for the pushing of this type of bills.

Are you sure it's going to be another 20 years? I was thinking they were the majority all ready. I mean their voice is heard way over mine.

Yeah, the congress our government don't care what they do to us. Once, their in office everything they said goes right out the window. A whole other face that we have never seen is on them.

That is very truth, it makes you wonder who is lobbying for the American people.

Nobody.

But anybody else have somebody. . .

BTW they are the growing minority they are not yet the majority.

This bill was written by the lobbiest for agribusiness.

The multinational corps pull the strings of both parties.

The American Taxpayers are such chumps.

I'm glad you brought this topic up, Shar. I am surprised how little press it is getting here on ATS. It would be nice if the title were more descriptive, though.

This bill is nothing but amnesty, pure and simple. It is going to give tens of millions of immigrants a free pass to our benefits.

Ask yourself why there has been NO public debate on it, and why the Senate is trying to ram it through on the fast-track. It's because it is such a lousy bill, and if the American people were truly aware of it's implications, they would be marching on Washington in protest.

Wrong. It was sponsored by Harry Reid, who we all know is a die-hard anti-Bush Democrat. Bush's only involvement is that he said he would sign it if it showed up on his desk.

Jsobecky,

Thanks for the link.

Have you ever noticed anytime they do something against the American people it’s done as quietly as they can. That way we don’t ever have a chance to do anything about it. However, I just wonder even if most people knew about it would they even care?

Oh relax people. They were going to become citizens anyways. Once the North American Union goes through, they were going to be free to travel and eventually it will be all one country, all one constitution, all one citizenry, so why not sooner than later? That's what the relaxed attitude is all about.

I don't understand the plans for a fence however, with plans for a super highway between Texas and Mexico. Unless the fence goes around Mexico also.

I am going to have to brush up on my Spanish, since that will probably be the second language of this NAU. So you see, you are getting all bent out of shape for nothing. Unless you plan to oppose the NAU, and do something about it? Guess not. No worries then.

They could just hire an American?

I work in landscaping and the illegal aliens make just as much as I do.

Where did this notion come in that Illegal aliens work for less? They don't. When I asked one guy he said he would never work for minimum wage. He said he send money back to Mexico, and if he got paid minimum wage he wouldn't have enough to survive (go figure)

I cannot fathom why the government WANTS to legalize this many people....

There must be a reason, mixed in there some where.

The average income for a Illegal immigrant on his own is somewhere around 9.50 an hr, and the average family income 30-40k a year.

The bill was destined to be terrible since someone in Washington decided to start putting something together.

Honestly, I have no issue with immigration because the entire debate is framed improperly. Some complain that they are mostly low skilled uneducated people. Good, we could use more of that type of labor rather than sending more jobs overseas to save money.

One has to ask themselves why it's really a problem that they come over here without being documented. The answer? Socialism, plain and simple.

Without programs like SS, welfare, public education, etc, this would be a far smaller problem than it is mainly because we can't really tax many of them and the social programs have never really worked well (like the government).

Remove social programs, remove the minimum wage, secure the border and have a reasonable method of letting them in, and tax all monies being transfered outside the US to mexico for good measure (if you want to).

There is a reason. This bill has been sponsored and championed by Reid, Kennedy, and other old-timer Democrats.

The purpose is to portray the Democrats as the party that stands up for immigrant rights. That will translate into a very large voting bloc in the future.

With political maneuvers like this, it's very possible that we will see this nation become a one-party system in the next couple of years.

They ceratinly are trying to slide this one by the voters without much fanfare. And it's true that most people would not do much about it anyway. People feel powerless. But there are things the average person can do.

NumbersUSA is an organization that represents the voters voice to the Congress. They send mass faxes, etc., stating our stand on issues such as this. They are doing a good job in this case, flooding Senators mailboxes with messages of protest over this issue.

This amnesty legislation has, unfortunately, broad bipartisen support in Congress, and the support of the White House. I see this legislation passing, not easily, but passing, then being signed.

Two term presidents have this habit of wanting to leave a legacy...well guess what Mr. Bushes will be? Legalized illegal immigration, and a mistake riddled foreign policy. Yep, quite the little legacy we got goin' on there...
