I just saw on CNN that famed director Robert Altman has died at 81. I am looking for a link to a story about it. So far its just a little brief on CNN.

It's now on Fox's website as a "Breaking News" bulletein.

Altman was perhaps best known for his feature films M*A*S*H, Nashville, and Short Cuts. His most recent film was A Praire Home Companion.

I am a fan of his.
I always thought his use of sound was so different, sometimes confusing, but it made you pay attention.

What I mean is the way he would capture audio from those who were on camera, as well as the ambient sound of other conversations in the room. Those are the natural sounds you would have heard, if you would have been in the room.

I had the chance once, to ask Walter Murch, a film editor (apocolypse now, godfather, jarhead) what it would have been like to edit an Altman film. He used a term like "nightmare" LOL..
