What the article is saying is that it's a card that we keep as a Multi-Access-Card. They didn't mean that the Government has no resposibility over
it, as if some SHADOW govt will take over. They meant that the rights of the card and it's ownership are transferred to us. It becomes OUR card. The
police can still ask to see our Driver's License, but not the Smart Card.
Have you ever had a Police officer ask to see you Library Card?
It says we could Personally Own it, which means that we would probably have to purchase it. Basically, it sounds like a USB device in the form of a
card that can be used for goods and services like medicare and welfare as the article states.
It's obviously an idea this one company has had for a while, it's just waiting for the infrastructure to deal with it, and with technology like
blue-tooth, it will be great. You could update your card on your PC.
This card will make 'Identities' (the movie 'The Net' scared you, didn't it) HARDER to steal IMHO. I'm sure there will be a 2 or 3 point
verification system before the chip even comes online. Any slip-ups and it goes 'POP'.
Were you this worried the first time you saw a SIM card?
