It seems to me that the Lebanon Gov't aren't the ones that started, or want to fight Isreal. I have yet to hear of the Lebonese Military being involved in any of the fighting, yet their people are are being caught in the middle of a confrontation between Isreal and Hezbolla.

Why isn't Lebanon trying to stop the Hezbolla from launching attacks on Isreal from their land, that in return is causing death and hardship to Lebonese civillians?

Wouldn't you expect, demand your government to do something?

Or why aren't they fighting next to Hezbolla now that their cities have been rocketed?

I think it might be that they are afraid to join in the confrontation with Isreal for fear of losing the "war" and then Ireal move in and push their border back more.

It is safer to let Hezbolla do the fighting and get the blame, if Hezbolla wins, great for Lebanon.
If Hezbolla loses, Lebanon had nothing to do with it.

You are good at answering your own question.

They have created a paradox for Isreal...

You cannot attack Lebanon the country because it is Hezbolla attacking you. You are killing innocents.

You cannot allow the attacks coming from Lebanon to continue becaue it is killing innocents..

So, you have to expend 10x the resources rooting out Hezbollah whilst leaving Lebanon intact.

If Texas started lobbing missiles at Mexico... Do you think this would happen? "Damn Texans... nothing we can do about them on our soil so you have no right to attack us you monsters!!!"

Weird, twisted politics.

the lebanese military is not going to get involved unless the ceasefire that Israel proposed is accepted.

The PM of Lebanon has acknowledged that Hez started this mess and he has intimated that Syria and Iran are probably pulling the strings. He doesn't want to fight Israel because he is then siding with an organization that currently has the world's scorn (not including the two nations pulling the strings). He has said that Israel is pushing too hard and he's somewhat correct but since he has repeatedly said he is not able to disarm Hezbollah, he can now watch Israel do what the UN has been asking of Lebanon since Israel withdrew in 2000.

Sadly, his nation is caught in the middle of this fracas and picking a side is going to have a negative impact on the nation. Side with Israel and help disarm Hez, the Arab world frowns on you (even if the Arab world has publicly spoken out against Hezbollah for starting the war). Side with Hezbollah and you have Israel possibly doing even more damage to your nation and the added misery of having the rest of the non-arab world frowning.

lose lose situation and somehow sitting back and idly accepting the destruction from the IDF is actually the "best" option.

That is pretty sad when a governments people are caught in between a conflict that they and their government don't want, and there (the Lebanese gov't)best/only decision is to let a militant organization war with a neighboring country on your soil brining hardship and death to its citizens.

It could also have something to do with the fact that Lebanon's military is as tough as a kitten. Hezbollah has more meapons and people in their service than the Lebanese military and therefore would be trounced in a direct fight. If that happened they would be leaving the country open to takeover by Hezbollah completely.

Lying , Cheating, Stealing ; is the way of life for the mid east countries. Why do they do it when noone is watching but when the worldis watching. They act as if they forgot what they have been doing for the last 1000 years. Come on people you have been in war for the past 1k years. It is not going to stop you guys/gals were raised as soldiers. Eating what you could to survive and doing what you had to do to get you through. Don't act as if you are civilized human beings now. ..***RANT***
