After the response from Israel following the kidnap of one of their soldiers, it appears that Hamas has offered to release him.

Hamas has agreed to the conditional release of the Israeli soldier whose abduction sparked a crisis in the Middle East, it has been claimed.

Egypt's President Hosni Mubarak made the claim but added that Israel has not yet accepted the offer.

It comes after electricity transformers in northern Gaza were hit by Israeli shells, cutting off power to much of the region amid the escalating crisis.

I'm not sure that Hamas are really in a position to start placing conditions on the release, it's simple, they either release the lad or it gets a whole lot more messy. They know this too, otherwise they would'nt be talking about a release.

So, basically, they are holding a soldier hostage and making demands.

Unfortunately the article doesn't say what the conditions are or who the Egyptian President is talking to.

The last paragraph of the article also says "Israeli Army Radio reported that a Palestinian militant group, the Popular Resistance Comittees, claimed to have killed Mr. Asheri".

Kind of makes it hard for them to make demands if this part of the article turns out to be true.
