Can you guys see it in your country. I'm in Japan and tonight the star actually looks like it is so close to the moon. What is going on?
I hope this doesn't bring on Earthquakes anytime soon.
Look up at the sky. Is it like that at your part of the world.

Our skies are heavily gassed this week in Eastern United States, where I am.
I'm unsure which star tracking apps can be trusted.

The sky is the sky. Venus is near greatest elongation. It's up late after sunset and very bright. It's also near the moon.

Bruce Sees all

When it comes to an uncensored view of the moon, has been some amazing clips over the years.

As for why the moon follows a similar path through the sky as the other planets is just how this solar system works. Newton taking about that stuff back then is like Peter McCullough talking about covid today. Thankfully he won the test of time on that.

There are apps for this, you can put on your phone. You point it at the star and it tells you what it is.

Yeah, Venus. It's been there for a few weeks. I've veen watching it.

Back in February, Venus and Jupiter were in conjunction with the moon. It was pretty cool.

ETA: It's not "close" to the moon. It's actually millions of miles away. At its closest it's something like over 60,000,000 miles from earth; at its fartherest it can be as far as 162,000,000 miles from earth. Conjunction puts it in the same region from a two-dimensional perspective, but it is still way out there.

I am amazed sometimes by what people don't see of the world around them. Back when I was about 20, I was driving south with a friend who was about 15 years older than me. (He passed away recently.) I made him stop on the highway as I saw the sun setting to our right. It was a beautiful sunset. He thought I was going nuts as I demanded he stop, then nearly dragged him up a hill on the east side of the highway. We sat on a rock and I said, "Look at the sunset."

He watched for a moment and said, "Man, it's going down fast. Does it always do that?"

I asked, "You've never watched a sunset?"

He says, "No, never."

Over 30 damn years old and he'd never watched the sun set.
