Its good to know the UK academic tradition that gave the world Darwinism, DNA, and Dolly the Sheep carries on its predictable, downward, path.

In early 2020 the UK The Equality and Human Rights Commision and the British Academy jointly funded research into "whether social scientists at universities feel censored over their views on transgender issues".

Trouble is the reasearcher, a Spanish national hired for the job, aparenyly came up with the wrong answer.

Dr Favaro cast her research net widely across the UK academic community and found that respondents "...told her that they had threats of violence in the gender debate, hostility from colleagues, and others said they felt their careers “can’t survive that sort of backlash”, and that they have to have “secret conversations” to avoid reprisal and because “we are all so afraid”.

Not what the University who hired her for job wanted to hear.

So City University of London, UK - ranked in the top 1,000 Universities in the world - did the smart, academically independant thing, as you'd expect. They "confiscated" the "dangerous" resesrch findings.

To quote the article:

"Dr Laura Favaro began the first ever taxpayer-funded study into whether social scientists at universities feel censored over their views on transgender issues in March 2020 at City, University of London.

But it has descended into chaos, with the study’s author allegedly hounded out of the university, stripped of the findings she collected and barred from publishing them amid claims of transphobia."

Dr Favaro has taken City to an employment tribuniral.

Theres faith in the system for you!

I'm uncertain if this can be incorporated into the annals of "Maxmars' Ironies of Modern Higher Education"....

She declared that university staff felt de facto threatened or compromised to honestly express their opinions on 'transgender issues" (shades of Covid, no?) ... many thinking they would face professional blow back and thus were not free to speak...

Then fired .... research "eliminated from the record" (the epitome of blow back, as well as the very definition of censorship)... huh.... Agenda much?

I would venture to guess this 'research' has meaningful lessons to teach about ALL university cultures all over the world today ...
