Those early drafts sound interesting, and would work in a long version of your story. The character limitations of ATS's contests forces us to prune away a lot.

The important thing is that the basis of the story is sound, everything grows from there. After which, if you remove some elements at least the foundation is still strong. I guess this is valid for many other things in are lives, especially relationships.

Your story gave me the rush I feel when I watch the 1975 movie Rollerball! You created a visual world outside of our current perception and painted the walls with color.

And then to finish with a hook is the best of things -- at least for me!
