After doing some research into commercial fishing, thanks to PiratesCut threads on the subject, I came across this remarkable story.

It seems like people who choose to do this for a living (more of a lifestyle), end up falling in love with the sea, boat, comradery, etc.

Link

ROCKLAND, Maine —
When Virginia Oliver started trapping lobster off Maine’s rocky coast, World War II was more than a decade in the future, the electronic traffic signal was a recent invention and few women were harvesting lobsters.

Nearly a century later, at age 101, she's still doing it. The oldest lobster fisher in the state and possibly the oldest one in the world, Oliver still faithfully tends to her traps off Rockland, Maine, with her 78-year-old son Max.

Do what you love and it isn't work anymore.

Remarkable!

Sounds like she learned the secret to life.

A rolling stone collects no moss.

I learned this the hard way and will never stop rolling again.

This lady got it right, and I hope others will follow her example.

Humans are not fit for idle we are full throttle to the grave, or we suffer a long and lingering internal self destruction.

I could only dream about being that spry when I am her age.
78 year old son??

Much respect to both of them.

years ago I read about a woman who drowned diving for abalone

she was 76.
(Korean immigrant in California)

I felt sad for her of course, but greatly respectful.
76 and diving in the ocean? wow. must have been quite a lady.

The secret to a long healthy and happy life is to have purpose right up to the end.

Those who retire early and retract and get “bored” die much sooner and decline much more rapidly. That’s not to say you have to work a 9-5 grind until you die no it the opposite you have to wake up each day with a sense of purpose and meaning and a need to be here.

Those who stay socially active as well as have a purpose driven existence seem to live much longer happier lives.

Those who live only to be entertained die younger.

The young guys teaming up to grow a lobstah biz is awesome!!
Watching it I can’t help but imagine the videos we could have put on Youtube back in my day if Youtube had been a thing...
If you watched this vid and are curious of the bait, they use Pogies and Redfish with the odd Skate thrown in.
Pogies are very oily and Lobstahs or Bugs love em, but so do the sand fleas.
Redfish have good staying power in the traps.

Thanks for posting this SeekingDepth!!

Cheers......😎

MykeNukem may be on to something here.....👍
