It's interesting that another translation for the word "day" is also eon.
And there are many examples of a day being more than 24 hours in the bible.
2 Peter 3:8
But do not forget this one thing, dear friends: With the Lord a day is like a thousand years, and a thousand years are like a day.
Most time periods in the bible are not as we understand them. For instance the "70 weeks" is not really 70 weeks, but groupings of weeks with time in between.

There are multiple books trying to explain the concept of time in the bible, to name a few:
- Biblical Words for Time, Barr James, Series 1, Vol. 33. London: SCM Press, 1962. Buswell, Oliver J., Jr.,
- The length of the creative days; in: Davis Bible Dictionary, Grand Rapids, Michigan: Zondervan Publishing House, 1982. Coppes, Leonard J.,
- Theological Wordbook of the Old Testament Vol. 1. Grand Rapids, Michigan: Eerdmans Publishing, 1935 DeVries, Simon,
- Yesterday, Today and Tomorrow: Time and History in the Old Testament
Grand Rapids, Michigan: Eerdmans Publishing, 1975. Ridpath, Ian (ed.),
Each one contradicts the other. Only a fool would be confident in his opinion after seeing so many intelligent people argue about it for years. It shows that interpretation is just that - someones opinion of what something means. The only way to know for sure would be if god written 'And by that I meant...'
Maybe if god wanted you to delve into the topic, he should have used more than a couple of extremely vague sentences when describing something so inconceivably complex as world creation.
The only way to verify the actual time it took the world to form is by science, but if you don't trust science, the only thing that's left is to argue about opinions with other people for another hundreds of years.

Adam and Eve were created after the seventh day. After God rested on the 7th day. It was Lord God who created Adam from the dust on the ground. And Eve from Adams ribb in the garden east of Eden a bit later......
God created man as male and female on the 6th day. Before he rested on the 7th day.
God did not name any of the male or females he created. Nor is it mentioned that Man gave eachoter names when they were created. Names were only given in the garden of Eden, under Lord God the Serphent.
Within religion or our recorded history it is like the Man (male and female) God created never existed. They were never as important as Lord Gods creation: Adam and Eve.
