NVIDIA Shows off new Next Level Ray Tracing Technologies

NVidia have released two demo's highlighting their new Ray Tracing technology RTXDI , the first video is of an attic and show off their Global Illumination technologies , the attic demo is available Here as an Executable file for anyone with an RTX graphics card.


The second video show off Nvidia's new Ray Tracing technologies.


I've only really experienced Ray Tracing in Metro Exodus but have to say it does add another layer of believability to a game world , if only we could get 30 series cards to experience all that RTX goodness to its full exttent.

I have a friend whose next-door neighbor is a game developer for one of the big companies. I'm surprised he's married with 2 young kids, as he's a super nerd, and definitely 'on the spectrum'.
Anyhoo, his PCs have those $2000.00 video cards. I guess they're hard to get, eh?

Impossible to get is closer to the mark , those who have got seem to be selling them on at double the price.

Friend of mine has an RTX 3080 he's thinking of cashing it in so he can get an RTX 3090 when they become available again , it's the (online) market economy I guess,

I bet the frame rates will be horrible on those settings.

Not so much if the games are also programmed for Resizable BAR (SAM) support.

Still waiting on purchasing a 3000 card until Nvidia works out their issues.

Quite pretty but still not exactly 'there' yet.

Stuff like car tyres that don't seem to connect with the road surface in places and other small 'complexity' issues.

Also the underlying textures in first video don't have any ray-traced 'depth'. It is like a fairly flat and featureless surface wrapped in a 2d graphic over fairly simple geometrics.

I'd have expected more in a cutting edge type demo from NVIDIA.

I still feel like I'm external and looking at the scene. I don't feel I'm 'in' it.

Might have to wait longer than that .... just to be able to buy one

Why so ?
It is just in it's infancy .

Give me an open world VR mmo and you will never see me again. Give me a virtual world to mess up to go with the physical.

I'd imagine this is designed to work on a 2060 as thats really the baseline but its going to take a while for the game engine designers to really work out the subtle tweaks that make things stand out but given you can't buy one of their cards for two kidneys and a spleen at the moment its more just something to keep the masses drooling over stuff they can't have yet.

RT is really in its infancy and will take a good few gens of hardware not just in the cards but in the display methods and even possible cpu arch to properly be able to feed the ever growing mouth.

theres a couple coming this year.... so you best suit up and grab some VR

OR you could try "A township tale"... its not really MMO but it feels like it

Fair enough, but I can remember some of the previous NVIDIA technology demo's and they were pretty good for the time.
