An explosive hidden in a bag on the side of the road has killed at least 5 people in KANDAHAR, Afghanistan, with at least another 30 wounded today. The attack is believed to be the responsibility of Taliban fighters, taking place just as Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice began talks with Afghan leaders in the capital, Kabul. A World Food Program vehicle was also damaged in the attack, but none of its passengers were hurt.

The senior security official, who requested anonymity, said the explosive devices had been planted in a bag by the road side in the Azrati Baba area of the city.
He said at least two of the people killed were women.

"There is no doubt that Taliban have carried out these blasts. Taliban is responsible for this," Kandahar police chief Mohammad Khan was quoted saying by Afghan Islamic Press newsagency.

There are some 18,000 U.S.-led troops in Afghanistan fighting a Taliban-inspired insurgency in the south and east of the country.

It seems militants are responding to any area in which the US politicians are trying to make progress in spreading democracy.

Again, despite personal ideology, this is another cowardly act that serves no purpose but to hurt your own.
