Very good points. Maybe then, lack of understanding, or I should say, lack of ability TO understand consciousness that seems to always imply it refers to ‘living’ things like people,animals etc.
Perhaps as you say, if we widen our scope of acceptance or evaluation as to what it means to be conscious, we might develop a better picture.
