Italian AF Predator lost over Lybia

It appears that the Italian AF has lost a MQ-9A Predator drone over Libya. Wreckage fo the craft have appeared on social media and the italian AF according to the article have now acknowledged the loss. It is unclear if it was a malfunction or the drone was shot down. The drone is part of the Italian AF “Operazione Mare Sicuro” (maritime surveillance of the waters off Libya)

What was the Drone doing? tracking movements of human traffickers? or the militants in eastern Libya?

Maritime patrol. They keep an eye on anything in and out, watching for weapons being shipped in, etc.
