I heard some guy on TV say that and it seems to be true enough. With the implication being that it had been needless worry, and all for naught.
Because you see, that's what "They" want you to think.
But in actuality what it really means is...Worrying Prevents Bad Things From Happening 90 Percent Of The Time!
Think about it...90 percent! That's powerful!
So ATS, I say to you..."Let's get our panties up in a bunch and worry like there's no tomorrow!"...ooh, wait...that last thing needs to go on the list.

I was a little worried back in 2010 that the wife and I would not be able to stay at our house if something even happened that would disrupt food and electricity locally for a month. We would have to be winterizing the house and moving to a motel out of the disaster area, coming back to find our house robbed. Well, we got prepared, and overall, now we shop for foods on sale and we have saved thousands of dollars over the year by having a food pantry. Nothing happened here though, we have had power outages that lasted three days or so, but nothing major. Being prepared did nothing for us other than saving thousands of dollars, remember, we now stock a lot of things we use regularly, rarely do we have to go to town anymore to pick up one ingredient for something we want to make for supper. The side effect of the pantry is way less miles on our vehicles, way less trips to town.

Worries create counteractions that lessen your chance of something happening that causes problems. Risk assessment is essential in real life, if you got more bases covered, then you do not need to worry so much, I am not too worried about anything anymore. We are self sufficient, we do not have to worry about loosing everything if one of us gets hurt, we owe very little, everything is payed off. We fixed our problems, we used to eat out all the time, now we cook most of our own meals and they are much better than the best local restaurants serve. We do go out and eat, only at the ones that serve food as good as ours but also occasionally go to a fast food restaurant for nostalgic reasons and to remind us how stupid we were to be constantly eat that crap.

Even as that may be, that 10% that we HAVE worried about and not managed to do anyting about has gotten us in one big mess.

I've learned to skew the results by only worrying about things that couldn't possibly happen ever. Works 100 percent of the time.

Thats only because 99% of the things people are up and going nutts about is complete bull#, to just be plain retarded.

I still remember the whole 2000 thing, in fact dont know what it was about now, something about computers crashing, but even back then it was dam silly. Not to mention that whole mayan end of the world thing, forgot when that was about or when to tell the truth dont know if it was in the 90s or 80s, but boy was that stupid, and well, most of that other stuff on the TV people got bothered about, all were just silly.

Not to say that things wont happen, because they will, but when you say that 90% of things you were worried about didn't happen is simply because for most people 99% of the things they put on the boob tube or the majority of people know about is as solid as wisps of smoke, its not a testament to things not happening, it just a testament to people being really really freaking gullible.

As for all that end of the world stuff. Well ya, the world will end one day, and most if not all humans will go extinct, it will happen. But on a long enouph timeline, the survival rate for anybody and anything drops to zero. And pretty sure everybody will have there theory and opinion on it, but whats the line from the bible? Like a thief in the night? Which is just saying, when you least expect it.

But sometimes its also like a bat to the head that you see coming from miles away. And yet still wont be able to dodge it.

I'm exhausted just reading that. You do realize that healthy living is the slowest, most painful way to die.

Yeah, if you live longer, then chances are it is the slowest way to die. Also, you tend to trip more the older you get, so it is painful sometimes when you are ninety five years old and stream fishing and fall into the creek. You do not need to eat fresh fish if you are not eating healthy, just have a Filet of fish sandwich from McDs. It is also hard to cut your finger filleting a fish at BK. I don't eat much lettuce, it makes me get the headspins if I eat it too often.

Yeah, people don't even know how to worry right anymore. I suspected as much.

That 10% is most likely due to occurrences that no one could do anything about .
At least a good portion

We turned the electricity and router off for a weekend.. and made it a no cell weekend... and people lost their collective poop. What I learned from this is to stock up on EVERYTHING... especially ammo.. cause when the electricity goes out its going to be worse than the zombie apocalypse.

Multiply what happened in your house by a million times.

Yeah, people don't even know how to worry right anymore. I suspected as much.

If there's a remedy when trouble strikes,
What reason is there for dejection?
And if there is no help for it,
What use is there in being glum?

Sounds like a win/win strategy.

My thoughts on worrying.

If you can't do anything about the thing you are worrying about, stop worrying.

If you can do something about the thing you are worrying about, do something.

This works most of the time for me, obviously not always but it really is a help.

Mark Twain is quoted to say:
I am an old man and have had many troubles... but most of them never happened.

I say:
Keep your eyes on now and the rest of time will be taken care of...... I beleive this is what 'faith' means.

I can relate to this.

I have an upcoming move, and thinking about it had me feeling uncomfortably anxious.Rather then being excited, my fears about the what could go wrong with the move were eating me up.(Taking time off work, dealing with damages in my unit/Landlord, financial concerns). My fears were preventing me from spending time preparing.

I called my Employee Assistance Plan to talk with a counselor.Even before calling, my mind was anticipating a long drawn out session consisting of me venting my concerns, and taking notes on what to do about each factor.

I was pleasantly surprised though. After listening to me vent a bit, the kind lady asked me, "What's the worse that can happen?"I thought about it briefly and felt relieved.Reflecting on that, helped to show me I had nothing really to worry about.Ruminating on what could go wrong, was preventing me from realizing all the support I have and the opportunities to make things right.I felt overwhelmed because I was worrying about everything at once, instead of breaking it down into bite size pieces.Instantly relieved, I thanked her. I was caught off guard by how such a simple question could alleviate so much stress.

That question was a good reminder for helping to keep everything in perspective.
