Osama bin Laden's top aide Ayman al-Zawahri has asked the most soughted militant leader in Iraq, Abu Musab al-Zarqawi, if he could plan terrorist attacks inside the United States. Intelligence sources claim that Abu Musab al-Zarqawi, who has claimed credit for a number of terrorist bombings, was noncommittal as it is believed they do not see eye to eye on all issues.

The source said al-Zarqawi, who has claimed credit for numerous terrorist bombings and beheadings inside Iraq, was noncommittal in the January conversation. Al-Zarqawi pledged allegiance to bin Laden last year, but the two men do not see eye-to-eye on all issues.

The source said that al-Zawahri's approach to al-Zarqawi indicates that bin Laden's al-Qaida terrorist organization is still interested in attacking the United States but may be having difficulties in enlisting groups with the ability to do so.

Homeland Security Department issued a bulletin to state homeland security departments over the weekend about the new intelligence, described by spokesman Brian Roehrkasse as "credible but not specific." He said the department had "no plans at this time" to raise the threat level. The fact that the United States was apparently able to monitor top al-Qaida communications is itself an indication of the organization's weakness, officials said.

Although it's not good to hear that Bin Laden is attempting to plan more attacks on the US, it is very telling that his group are having to recruit other terrorist organizations to do the job for them. Have their group been weakened or is this an attempt at causing more unrest?
