when you compare it to the reputed "suitcase nukes" that have been fabled to exist throughout the US....its quite a bit more chilling.

Unmarked vans? Cops confiscating mobile phones? Seems a little out of the ordinary for some "mundane" explosives. Having lived in Europe where WWII era grenades, bombs, and sea mines are often discovered, I've never once heard of the cops going all "black ops" due to it.

Strange stuff, thanks for the thread. Quite interesting.

Update #8: 17:33 CET

Got my phone back, I have been through a police investigation about what I was doing in that place and so on. We have been thanked for acting like we did. It was an active anti tank missile, bomb squad was not authorized to manipulate with it, military bomb squad had to be called, it is beeing transported to a nerby military area where they are going to detonate it. I could get any more info about it being wired or how did it even get there but hopefully will be able to get some more info from an owner of that factory, will keep you updated. There is a strict embargo about it we can't talk to press or anybody so I hope this will be ok since I did not mention anything too specific.

....

In other words, no not debunked... Not even close.

The ultimate defence against hackers. If anyone remotely hacks into the server, the telecoms rack gets blown to pieces. Good job no-one pinged port 666 on the terminal server.

Thats bonkers.

You cannot leave crap like that laying around where someone could get their hands on it without official recognition and a good reason to possess it. Bloody stupid black markets!

I am doing some air-condition maintenance in an small business office building. No one was in that server room for more than 2 months since the last IT guy left and apparently took the keys with him. AC gave up, found out there are no spare keys, had to break in and found this. Farewell present from a former employee maybe?

Soviet Warhead Found Inside Of Server Room

Browsing reddit when suddenly I stumble across the post. Situation is currently still active as of making this post.
This is quite the story if everything turns out to be true. What on earth is someone doing with a live Soviet warhead? Hell, what was the incentive in the first place?

The warhead in question is an AT-3 Sagger

The OP of the post has been keeping us updated:

Update #2: Owner has no idea what it is or how it got there, there is a millitary warehouse few kilometers away with defunct BVPs nad V3Ss. Calling cops.

Update #3: 14:30 CET Bomb squad is on the way, we are ordered to evacuate the building and leave the premises. Will update when they'll get here.

Update #4: 14:50 CET Bomb Squad in the bulding: Police want to confiscate our phones and stuff for pics maybe? Hope I am not in trouble for posting that pic.

Update #5: 15:03 CET Mobile phone confiscated, updating from notebook. We have been escorted maybe 2 kilometers away to some parking lot with police escort. We have to wait for a police interrogation. They are really not cool about it.

Update #6: 15:16 CET Just heard from police radio. It is a freaking active bomb, live explosive, not inert or whatever is the correct #ing wording for it in english.

Update #7: 15:32 CET Bomb squad will try to remove the device if it is not wired and transport it to some safer place, we are on our way to a police station. Some black vans with no registration plates on the scene, few military cars. It looks like a complete military lockdown. Crazy stuff...

OP Update

Edit:
The poster is from Czech Republic

Isn't the Sagger a anti-tank missile?

Yes it is a first ish generation MCLOS (Manual Command Line of Sight) Anti Tank Guided Missile.

It has a high explosive anti tank warhead which uses a precision made copper cone that gets forcibly propelled by the explosive charge behind it to blast through the hulls of armored vehicles.

In a way, it's actually one of the better pieces of possibly IED rigged ordnance to find in an enclosed space because of the way it's designed to do what it does. (Keep in mind this is me saying it's better to be cut with a razor blade than a chainsaw. Neither are good)

Objectively, something like one of the thermobaric rpg-7 rounds would be way worse to find inside a server room because if it blew up it could potentially collapse a good portion of the structure and kill anyone inside the building regardless of their proximity.

For those who are curious the sagger / malyutka (sagger being the NATO designation for it while malyutka is what Warsaw pact forces would refer to it as) basically uses a flare in the tail end and a joystick as it's guidance system. The operator literally steers it in flight. That's why they are so cheap as I wrote about in an earlier post.

I'm one of those crazy Americans who is militantly pro second amendment and even I agree that I'd prefer for antitank missiles to be fairly limited in distribution yes.... LoL

Update: OP has confirmed it was a bamboozle and as such has been banned from the sub (Rule 2)

Thank you guys for being part of the biggest reddit bamboozle of 2018, it was all just a made up story to make your day a little more exciting!

Well that's good...

I think it's safe to say that sane people do not ever want to see real incidents like this.

Even people like me who are huge fans of military technology and all things boomy!

Booms and military grade equipment can be legitimately immensely fun, but only if handled responsibly.

If nothing else this served as a good snap drill too with the admins posting the notice about UXO and making it clear that it's not ok to tell people to mess with something like that if they find it. A wealth of information was also put out there by qualified individuals to counter and dispel many of the more common myths and beliefs about potential UXO, which people were more likely to pay attention to and absorb because they thought it was a real situation.

So in the big picture view of things I think that this one did more good than harm.

It's still really not cool to do something like that poster did, but at least it had positive results.

For anyone here who didn't read through the big string of Reddit posts and run across the very good information posted by knowledgeable people regarding useful information about potential UXO

here's a short list of key info

1. If you believe you may have found something like this you will not get in trouble for calling it in to police even if it's on your property or etc.

2. Just because it's painted blue or has holes drilled in it or et cetera does not necessarily mean it has been safed/inserted/demilitarized !

3. Do not pick up, shake, move, or otherwise manipulate something you believe might be live ordnance.

4. If you do snap a picture of it before you call in the item, it's best to both take the picture and make the call from a safe distance. Your cellphone is pretty unlikely to set it off, but it's just plain good policy to retreat to a safe distance and not do or operate anything which could set it off. As one of the EOD guys said in the Reddit posts, something like an infantry grade military spec radio may put off enough emissions to inadvertently set something off but your cellphone likely won't.

Really, the most important thing to understand is that you are not in trouble if you find something like this! That cannot be stressed enough!

Do not risk yourself or anyone else attempting to move or otherwise deal with something yourself!

Also if you have old demilitarized ordnance etc please be responsible with them! Do not try to make something look live that isn't or et cetera because stuff like that just makes it less and less likely that other people who enjoy this stuff will have access to it in the future!

Hey, I think that second amendment is at least one of the most important parts of your constitution! You fight for it till your gums bleed if you have to!

But AT rounds? Thats over the top, haha!

Honestly, I have sort of unconventional views on the 2nd amendment which play into my reasoning behind why I'd like these things to be a bit more available than they already are now (technically it's not illegal to buy and own a TOW missile as a private individual even now, and I know several people who have mark 19 automatic grenade launchers as well as several hundred rounds of genuine HEDP grenade rounds for them.)

My desire to see stuff like this be legal and available, but not too available, comes down to keeping a qualitative quantitative and economic outlay edge in areas that the DOD etc has very poorly funded and has mostly technologically stagnated for a half century plus in the West.

Basically, I want to use rednecks gun guys and perpetual tinkerers plus capitalism to keep us competitive. So, it's not really for them so much as a convenient way to help assure our ability to fight as a nation.
