Mysterious Booms have been heard around the world at least 64 times this year. Most recently Alabama, San Diego, Colorado. I just assumed it was sonic booms from aircraft. The meteors breaking up could explain it. Hope a big one doesn't sneak in.

Alabama is home of the high speed corridor from Marietta to Huntsville to Knoxville. They're allowed to go supersonic in that area for flight testing and training.

San Diego is home to multiple carriers that perform qualification and training just off the coast. This occasionally includes supersonic flight.

Colorado is not far from a restricted area the military uses for training. I've seen several aircraft going supersonic over Wyoming.

Just about every one of those dots over the US are near either an MOA or flight training area for the military.

The ones that are sonic booms don't have to be anywhere near where they're reported. A single sonic boom can be heard over hundreds of miles. Farther under the right conditions. An experiment with the Concorde picked up secondary effects of its sonic boom over 2,000 miles away.
